The dad-person was getting Eli a telescope for Christmas, and I was looking for a 12-volt cooler to plug in the SUV. Google pulled up Sports Authority for the 12-volt (which I also priced out other places), and I noticed that they had a telescope on sale. Not only was it on sale, a free pair of binoculars came with the telescope. The brand was Galileo, and the prices listed were $119 for the telescope and $99 for the binoculars. But, they both came on a special with free shipping too for $59 for both gifts.
I called the dad person. He had ordered a telescope at full price (a little over $100) online. He was able to cancel the order though and get the deal at Sports Authority, since the full priced one had not shipped. He was glad I told him about this deal, and he is just going to pay the telescope/binocular portion when he comes in for the holidays.
As I looked around Sports Authority, I noticed that they did have a nice selection in all sports and outdoor areas. Some things were a little hard to find by categories. I was looking under water sports and boats and only saw fishing boats. When I went to the search box and put in canoe, I did find those. Canoes ran about average on price, but it went over $100 to ship one. Of course, it would take some doing to ship a canoe, so I think that is something it would be better to go to the store to buy. Still, you could get a canoe here if you wanted.
In most every section, they had some good specials. They had a 12-volt air pump to blow up beach toys and that sort of thing for half price, so I put that on my order. Items that werent on sale were priced reasonably. The 12-volt cooler was a little higher than a few places, but the brand was Coleman. I added that also.
It took a while to put together my order with the calling to dad-person and him checking on the first telescope to make sure they could cancel and then looking online at his house at the items and calling back and happy with the deal. There are a few sites that time me out and my items disappear which is frustrating, but it was all there at Sports Authority as I shopped and compared and thought it over.
I placed the order, and an email came right away. They were shipping the next day with everything in stock.
The UPS man came with the packages today. I do wish they had covered the cooler box as it was going to be a Santa thing for all to carry out snacks in the SUV. Eli hauled it in and said we had a fancy trashcan in the mail, but he figured that out to be a cooler. The other items were in brown packages though, so that was good.
Sports Authority has good specials and some free shipping depending on what you buy and when. They also offer coupons from time to time. Its a good idea to get on the mailing list, and they dont spam you out with a lot of junk.
You can go to Sports Authority at many malls, but we have to drive an hour to one. Im glad I can look online and then think about what Im going to buy and also get in touch with dad-person if I see something I think would help on his end too. Even if Sports Authority was closer, Id still rather go online except buying a canoe or something real big like that.
