| kf6nbh's Full Review: Dazzle Multimedia Dazzle hollywood 1394 DV-Bridge |
I recently bought the DV bridge in hopes of taking all the footage me and my friends made and make a movie with it. I bought the DV bridge in hopes of converting all my video to DV, so we retain the original quality and have a decent looking video.
I hooked it all up and was very impressed with what I saw. The video transfered flawlessly from my Hi8 camcorder to my PC and I begun editing. Then it was time to get the VHS tapes of our footage and thats when things went wrong. As I was recording to my computer I noticed that the converter was dropping an outrageous amount of frames and by the time the video got the computer it was so screwed up that you could not tell what it was. I looked into it and alot of other people were having the same problem. The dazzle automatically switches what mode it is in to accomodate whatever signal your inputing to the unit. In order for the dazzle to work, the video being inputted to it MUST be crystal clear and be flawless to convert. Even some footage on my Hi8 camcorder would not convert. This totaly is the opposite of what they advertise it for: Archiving old tapes. I tried to get a few 16 year old archive tapes to convert and the DV bridge will not even let the signal convert. I was hoping for alot more out of the unit, but would recomend the Canopus converter that is made for professional video, does the exact same thing as the DV bridge, and is the same cost.
