If it's not too late I would advise you read some of Yusakugo's reviews (especially on the Zire) because he mentions some comparisons of older model Palm's that can give you backlight and/or color among other things for not too much more than $100 bucks.

I am considering purchasing this item on QVC because I have a credit there for Christmas for $100 and your review just sold me! I need a bare bones classic Palm or other type of machine and this one will do it for me. I would love a backlight but if I have to pay another $100 for a model that has that plus a ton of other stuff I don't need, then it is not worth it. Thanks again for the great review!
