Pros: a little cheaper than others, comes with Nero
Cons: email support, destroys 2 out of 3 cds
The Bottom Line: Bad unit, poor installation instructions. Flippant support.

I purchased a 7163 CD writer just over a year ago and have had continual trouble with it.
I twice sent it back for repair and once got it back without a cover sheet and the second time got a reconditioned unit even though the one I sent was new!
Basically the unit destroys cds when writing. 2 out of three burns fail on write errors.
So I collected the long failure reports and emailed them to Ricoh 'support'.
Each and every reply was flippant. Usually saying that 'the fault could be software or hardware.' Very clever. We all know that.
They never ever commented on the reports I had sent. So why do they produce them?
I really regret buying the unit and will now probably cut my losses, throw it away and but a decent unit, maybe a Yamaha.
