Shure 15 type V (Reply to this comment)

With all due respect to Shure Bros. excuse on the discontinuing of the type V. All the other cartridge manufacturing companies seem to be able to find rare and exotic materials to make their needles and all of a sudden Shure can't!!! Bull----!!! If this world renown needle was that good and popular they would still be making it. Obviously some executive with no vision said the heck with it because of the oncoming CD.So Shure Bros. don't hand me that weak excuse.Oh by the way I also have a type V that I can't get a real exact replacement for!

Thanks for your comment and yes!-I have been trying to put a review on the M97Xe up here on EPINIONS for quite some time but there simply is no slot for the item at the moment. The Shure M97Xe is very similar to the V15VMxR except for the fact that the stylus assembly is blue as opposed to red for the V and the stylus itself on the M97Xe is a .002 x .007 elliptical instead of the longer footprint of the V's Micro Ridge type.

Also the M97Xe is wonderful at a fraction of the V's price but is somewhat down in the extreme highs by comparison. It also seems to be extremely dependent on proper alignment for proper high frequency tracing. This is particularly noticeable on the inner grooves of a record. Overall, the M97Xe compares very favorably and ranks as one of my all-time favorites! God bless!...Pete

Excellent review, would like to see a review on the cheaper lookalike of this cartdige, the M97xE. Would be interesting to see how it holds up in comparison.

I love this stuff!! Audio is so much fun for me and I have truly been blessed to have been privileged to hear not only the MAINLINE but also the ELITE!! The Koetsu Rosewood and Ruby are truly spectacular and I find the hand crafted wooden bodies a most desireable feature but it still amazes me beyond belief that the Shure surpasses these units and others on highly modulated demanding material! It is a testament to the V15IV that your very frugal approach to your TT/CART combo has rewarded you with great untiring sound! I applaud you for this! I also realize that audiophiles with big pocketbooks and ears are entitled to something special and different no matter what the expense! That is why I have no problem with someone spending $6000 on a pair of Allison ONE speakers with the highly polished CHERRY finish. You are not just getting a first rate speaker but also the best crafted furniture in the business as well! If you can afford it, by all means -GO FOR IT! As for myself, I most definitely cannot afford the Allisons and probably never will. That's ok too as I feel I still own the "BEST" withg my Bose 901 speakers that are well-crafted but not the equal in finish of the Allisons. My point is that the Koetsu cartridges fall into that same "ELITE" category. They're great but onobtainable by most of us.But who cares when the Shures do pretty much the same thing for a considerably less sum of money. Thanks again and God bless you!.....PETER

I'm not sure (Reply to this comment)

if this thing would really outperform a properly set up $4000 Koetsu (except in tracking), but I agree that it is an outstanding cartridge. I still use a Shure V15IV in my AR-ES1 turntable, and I have never felt compelled to change. Good review.
