Great speakers, Great price

I bought these KLH's a little over a year ago now, and i have had absolutely no problems with them. As you probably have noticed, this is a 4-way speaker. The addition of the super-tweeter in this speaker is what makes the difference. I would not recommend spending this amount of money if it was three-way. It isnt so much that the super-tweeter plays higher sounds then typical tweeters...that is only true to a degree, because most people cant hear these frequencies anyways. However, having another crossover frequency more evenly distributes different sounds (Hz). This means each driver has a smaller range of sound to reproduce, and with a little under 20,000 hz that we can actually hear, that is a very good thing. The nice things about these speakers are that you can play any type of music and it feels like a concert in your room. Its great when watching movies and my dog and cat is around, and they hear some of the wildlife sounds etc, and start freaking out.
The only thing lacking in these big speakers is bass at low volumes. Before i get to that im going to rant about people who think music should be ALL BASS. Most people, for example people with dual 15" subs in their car, turn the bass all the way up and go, "WOW I CAN FEEL IT AND SHAKE THE CAR NEXT TO ME". Music is not made to be all bass! THats why i say these speakers dont provide enough bass at low volumes. Once you crank them up, they shake everything more then enough. If you have a problem with it at high volumes, then you just dont know how to set-up your reciever. Movies i will give you can also be lacking in bass. However, all bass problems can easily be resolved, if you take out the woofer, and put in some sort of insulation. These speakers have very little insulation inside. Besides, chances are if you are looking for high-quality sounding speakers, you will get a subwoofer anyways. In fact, i recommend it, because i have never heard a normal speaker pull off the realistic bass that a sub does.
Ive turned my reciever nearly all the way up in the past, and these speakers are yet to distort. It hurts to stand in the room at extremely high volumes because of the clarity of the high notes.(granted, i am not in a huge open room). But i can leave the room, go into the back of my house, shut the door, and it sounds like the music is playing in that room(obviously with a loss of quality). These speakers are great for teenagers, or adults with teenage kids, because there is very little chance of them causing damage to them.
My opinion:
Unless you are a audiophile with a lot of bucks to devote to a $1000 A/V reciever and an $800 pair of speakers, it will be very difficult for you to surpass the sound quality of these speakers with a sub. Ive compared them with a $500 pair of JBLs and the sound was very comparable, a little cleaner, but with less realistic bass. Definetly not worth the extra money for the JBLs. You can probly find a pair of these for less 200 bucks, and find a good deal on a sub, and you will have excellant sound, and you will save a lot of money.
