| loogie711's Full Review: Dell Latitude CS |
I spent 1100 on this machine, which includes the docking station and cdrom drive. It was money well spent.
One of the great things about this laptop is that it is a dell. That means you have access to Dell's great tech support.
On to the laptop.
Its a nice machine. It felt kinda heavy when compared to my sony n505ve, but thats because the previous machine weighed only 3 lbs. This one weighs in at 4 lbs and packs more power along with screen area.
The machine is sturdy. The case appears to be made out of metal and you can tell this is a sturdy machine. It feels a lot more solid than my friend's Inspiron 3800, my previous n505ve, and my previous thinkpad i1412. The only bad thing about the case is that it does get a little warm on the bottom.
Upgradeable. This machine is very easy to upgrade. There is a panel on the bottom to add more ram. Another one to swap in a larger hard drive. And the OS upgrade to win2k was simple and painless. No drivers from the web were needed. You might want to download the touchpad drivers to increase functionality as it allows you to program it to perform some functions, such as forward/back in IE. Speaking of the touchpad, some might find this a hindrance and others a plus. I like this touchpad, its responsive. the software is good, and the buttons are not flimsy.
One thing I love about this machine is that I can find parts and accessories for it easily, and most importantly, cheaply. You can't say the same about my sony. I got a brand new replacement battery for 30 bucks, and a docking station for 80 off of ebay.
This machine isn't a desktop replacement. It can be, if you get the docking station which adds a pci slot as well as a scsi interface and a 10/100 nic.
