Try iConnectHere.com Instead

Written: Dec 31 '02 (Updated Dec 31 '02)
Pros:Widely known
Cons:Requires a $25 minimum to use, trouble with trial use
The Bottom Line: Anyone concerned about running out of cellular day time minutes and good commmunication quality should check out iConnectHere.com

I recently decided to get rid of my land line and go totally wireless. I signed up with Verizon and got my wife and son on the family share plan. So far so good, but what if we run out of our anytime minutes? It seemed foolish to add a large number of these minutes we were unlikely to use just in case we need more hours and want to avoid the high cost ($0.40 to $0.45 per minute) of added minutes.

So I decided to look into the various PC to phone services. I played around with Net2Phone, iConnectHere, Dialpad and PhoneFree. What I found was that iConnectHere had an easy user interface, helpful customer service (they refunded a $0.79 charge for a misdialed number within 6 hours of my sending an email), and excellent sound quality - even with just an inexpensive microphone and medium quality speakers.

I tried using Net2Phone and had trouble getting connected (I'm behind a Linksys router with a built-in firewall) initially and then when I tried to call the 800 number as a trial was told that I'd exceeded my time or my money. I tried contacting their customer service and got no response. The on line help was of no use and they wanted $25 to get started. iConnectHere allows you to start with $10 to debit against and there is no monthly fee - so if I don't use the service for 3 months, it costs me nothing.

I'd highly suggest you try iConnectHere.com.
