The Bottom Line Socks don't only keep your feet warm, they show off your style to the world.

Brrrrrrr. My feet are cold. “Mommy where are my cute fuzzy pink socks?” “Mommy where are my blue socks with baseball prints on them?” “Honey did you wash my socks, I need them for work?” Is there ever an end to the sock dilemma? The answer is No. We always wear socks so there will always be that question, “Where are my socks?

Socks, what exactly are they? Socks are used to keep our little or big footsies warm and toasty in the winter. They are essential when wearing shoes for work and they help your shoes fit your feet more snugly. You can buy socks in any color, pattern, and size you choose, to add some style to your wardrobe or just plain and simple, to keep your footsies warm and toasty.

When I was in high school and took cosmetology classes it was required to wear ONLY white socks to class and when on the floor cutting hair. Now this was a big change for me. I was used to wearing socks of all sorts of colors and patterns to go with my outfit. Yes, I was one of those who had to have her socks coordinate with her outfit.

I have socks with patterns on them to match the holiday it is. Like right now I have on a pair of white socks with little red and pink hearts on them. I also have a pair with a cherub shooting an arrow. I own just about every color of sock out there, white, black, red, green, blue, aqua, taupe, pink, you get the idea.

I like my socks to fit nicely. I hate socks that fall down your ankles and into your shoes. I want my socks to fit my feet snug and not have a lot of extra material so it bunches up in my shoes.

Cotton socks are the best, I stay away from the wool and socks that are so thin that when you put them on you have to be careful or your foot will go right through the socks. Cotton socks tend to feel better on your feet and don’t stretch all out of proportion. The color also doesn’t fade as much. We all know how it is when you got a pair of socks and one tends to fade quicker then the other.

Another thing to look for is how well they are made and will they stand up to everything you put them through. I want the stitching to be strong and not unravel the minute you throw them in the wash or you wear them one time and they get all holey. I tend to wear socks all day long; when I’m home I keep them on to keep my feet warm. I wear them to bed so when my feet creep out from under the covers they stay warm.

I buy my socks when they are on sale and stock up for the year. The best places to buy socks are from smaller, less expensive department stores, like K-Mart. I tend to stay away from the more expensive stores like JCPenny because they want more for socks and don’t always have the best choice. I can usually buy a 6 pack of socks for $5.99 to $6.99 at the smaller department stores. At the larger more expensive stores you usually only find them sold in one or two/three to a pack for the same price.

Buying socks for my husband is easier. He only wears black socks for work and doesn’t care what brand they are; as long as they fit, don’t wear out quickly and are black he could care less. I’m sure he wouldn’t like wool socks too much so I tend to stay away from those all together for the whole family. There’s nothing like having to itch your feet all day long at work or play.

When buying socks for my daughter I do what I do for me. I buy them in colors to match her outfits. I like them to fit her and not fall off to easily. Of course they have to be strong and be able to stand through wear and tear, well a little more then the usual for Jordan. When we’re at home I keep her in socks all day too and she does do a lot of running around and the pulling of the socks off 10 times a day. They do have to withstand a lot of activity from a bouncy, active, hyper 15-month old everyday.

Another good use of socks when you have a baby at home is to use them as mittens. I used Jordan’s socks as mittens when she was just born to keep her from scratching her face up, like all little babies do sometime or another.

So when choosing socks make sure they fit well, will hold up to normal wear and tear, or if you have kids more then the normal wear and tear. Be sure to stock up whenever you can. Cause we all know what happens when you put them in the dryer. The dryer fairy comes down and snatches one of them when you’re not looking.

When I saw this category I just had to make it into a write-off. Be sure to check out the following who joined in with me, they might just knock your socks off with their reviews.
