Is it worth it?
Written: Jan 01 '03
I bought my I300 off of ebay used for only $250. (At the time it sold new for $450). I consider this a great deal as the phone came in almost new condition with only 3 hours talk time at all!
After taking the usual three days to become 100% familiar with the unit I noticed that I was having to return it to its synching cradle, an eyesore on my workstation style-wise, every day, sometimes twice a day depending on the usage. Also, when I took a call the unit would get hot very quickly, a sign of engineering and design gone deeply wrong. Also, if there was a slightly bright light or if I was outside I could not see the screen at all! Because of this I had to use the unite mostly indoors which as most sprint pcs owners know, is not the best place for sprint phones to work.
I did find that antennae on the phone (retractable) gave a more than sufficient signal on the unit for a sprint phone. The stylus handled very well and did not slip or feel awkward in my hand.
The phone did have a speakerphone option but the sound from the unit sounded muffled and did not offer much comfort in use.
Finally, the phone is not upgradable, has no slot for extended memory (if you do not use many applications this is fine, if you like games then you are out of luck). New comers to Sprint PCS know of Sprint Vision, this is not an optional plan for the I300 because it still uses yesterdays technology for wireless web.
Overall, this phone was good when it was first released but compared to other pda phones that are now and are soon to be realized, this phone is yesterdays news and is just not worth the purchase!
