| MythSpell's Full Review: Zenith Zenith ZHDTV1Z TV Antennas - Shipping: ($10... |
I had tried about a dozen different antennas before finding this little wonder. I had tried both indoor and outdoor as well as amplified and unamplified models. And despite the fact that all of them were considered (and priced) as high performance top-notch antennas, none pulled in channels as well as this Zenith model. I should note here that this antenna is also sold under the Gemini brand.
Now for some details.
PRO's:
Right out of the box, it can be assembled in under a minute. It is an indoor antenna and therefore relatively small - it will fit in a 12" by 12" space. The base is designed and weighted to eliminate any chance of it tipping over - something that can't be said for some indoor models. Although I know this is a personal opinion, I believe that this antenna has a unique high-tech look to it which makes it more interesting than the typical looking indoor antennas. This may be a factor if you place the antenna in a location where it will be seen. And last but certainly not least is its performance. It pulled in stations that others did not at all. It made every channel sharper and clearer than any others. And because it is unamplified, not only does it save electricity, but it avoids the all too common rolling lines which are introduced by amplified antennas. Overall, its performance on every level was superior.
CON's:
It is a UHF/HDTV only antenna. As such, it will ONLY pick up channels in the UHF range. So, if you need to receive any VHF channels, this simply won't work. I don't really consider this a CON per se since it is clearly marked as UHF/HDTV only. Nevertheless, there are obviously many choices out there that receive both frequency ranges. The only true problem I have with this antenna (and in all fairness, with all antennas) is its price. Let's face it, most antennas (including this one) are made from very inexpensive materials such as aluminum and plastic. So, although the $35-40 price range of this antenna is still lower than many other antennas it outperformed, it is still annoying that it is so much more than it actually cost to manufacture.
