This morning, my wife gave me socks. What a pleasant surprise. I mean, it's not like today is my birthday or Christmas. (Christmastime is a great time for socks - nothing beats socks under the blankets on a cold winter night!) Today she gave me cozy warm socks. Felt so good, I let out a little whoop. Shh, she said, you’ll wake the kids. You know, I can remember a time when I was young, I went for ages without socks. Boy, did that gave me calluses. Now that I am getting older, I am finding socks harder to get on standing up. Sitting or lying down works better. I had a lot more socks when I was single. A wider variety too. Nowadays, I appreciate the basics – quality over quantity. That being said, one of the benefits of business travel is that, if you’re adventurous, you can get some exotic socks. Shop carefully – the socks you will find in your hotel can be pricey. I got some incredible socks in Paris once. I picked up some cheap socks in Bangkok, but I ended up with a rash. How to choose what kind of socks to have? It depends. Sometimes it is better to go for comfort, sometimes for style. If in doubt, it is wise to seek your partner's advice.  |
