This is a subject on which we all have an opinion. Everyone needs socks at one time or another and I have some ideas that may make it easier for you. One of the most important ideas is to keep in mind when shopping that you always need socks, therefore when you see a good deal buy them. I don't like the idea of HAVING to buy socks and being stuck paying full price. So when shopping for any kind of clothing I keep my eye out for a sale. My experience has been that going back to school time is a great time of year to stock up. The sales are everywhere. Walmart, Kmart, and Sears are stores that are known to have name brand socks on sale this time of year. What kind of socks should you buy? It depends on your life style. I buy sports socks in bulk because I play sports, workout, and have a job in which I can dress casually. I wear these kind of socks most often. Dress socks, tights, and nylons I wear less often so I try to pick them up when I can get a great deal. I do not worry about name brands as much since these types of foot wear get less use and therefore are less important to my wardrobe. For my daughter I like the idea of buying MANY of the same type of sock for everyday. This makes it not important that the exact sock is found as a match. I don't know about your house but socks have a habit of disappearing and I have a basket full of single socks whose matches may never be seen again. I prefer to buy cotton socks. This have been the most durable for my family. Cotton pulls the moisture away from your feet and keep them very comfortable. Your foot stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. My experience with nylon socks has not bee good. They do not last as long. They make my foot slip in and out of my shoes. I often get runs or holes in nylon socks. Socks can make great gifts. There are ways to choose socks as a gift. If you know the person's favorite color it is fun to buy them socks in this color. Red is my favorite color and it is such a treat for me to get a new pair of red socks. I cannot have too many pairs of red socks. My daughter loves mint green. Everyone knows that she has shirts, skirts, blouses, shorts, pants, in this color so mint socks are always appropriate. Novelty socks are fun too. You can find socks for every holiday. It is fun to have one pair for most holidays. It is a fun way to celebrate without being too far out there. If you want to be thrifty you can pick them up on clearance for next to nothing and use them for gifts next year. My latest sock gift were trouser socks for my sister-in-law for her birthday. Trouser socks are thin socks sort of like colored knee high nylons. This socks are great for the professional woman who wears pants. They fit so nicely with dress shoes. You can find them in a variety of colors and textures. Both my daughter and I wear both tights and socks in the wintertime. She wears them with her school uniform and I wear them under my pants at work. Wearing socks with the tights allows us to get the benefit of our legs being warm and being able to wear comfortable footwear at the same time. Everyone needs socks at one time or other. They are more important to some of us, but generally is is something we use often.  |
