As far as external USB drives go, the Storix size, reliability, and lack of need for external power adapter can't be beat.
Having to lug a laptop with its peripherals and their peripherals gets old. So when a design comes along which clearly was thought through with a road warrior in mind comes along, it is a welcome relief.
I had the drive up and running in minutes, and it had functioned for me uncomplaining and without errors on Windows 2000 and right through a Windows XP upgrade.
On laptops, battery life is a concern. I will pull 5 volts either from your PS2 mouse port or from your USB port. In my case, it cuts my battery life in half, others might have different results. Transfers to and from the USB do run slower than from your hard disk - more like retrieving from a 4x read CD. Otherwise, it runs quiet, cool, and uncomplaining. It also works fine through USB hubs, as that is how I move files back and forth with my desktop system.
Great stuff. Now if they could just keep pushing the capacity up, they'd really have something!
