HILARIOUS! (Reply to this comment)
by armywife
"You want tinsel on the tree, then you spend the next three weeks pulling it out of the cat's a.ss!" .....that line alone made me laugh so hard I had to explain to everyone else in the living room what was so funny. Thank you for that!! I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Never mind about the oxiclean....your writing style is hilarious!! All I really want to know now is..who is jack...did you get a job?...you should write a book...suddenly I am very intrigued!!!

Hi Katy,
I live to scrub and scrub to live. Thanks for the offer, but I think the airfare may cut into my pay scale somewhat. However, as I eradicate dirt in its many forms here in Long Island, I will be wishing your dirt a similar speedy end as well.
Best regards,
Tom

Why do they always do that? It must be a territory thing. I'll give it a try.

And to think all this time the only thing I've used OxiClean on was laundry! Thanks for your suggestions, Tom...
HOWEVER... I despise cleaning, and YOU need a job. Wanna come down here for a while and play housecleaner? My apartment's in dire need of a good scrubbing... and there's a bonus here: We don't have cats, so there's no yack.

Lucy 'n Petey Give it Eight Paws Up! (Reply to this comment)

If you're still looking for things to clean in your now sparkling home, remember the OxyClean next time you have to give Loki's litter box a thorough rinsing. I use it in Lucy 'n Petey's box and they show their appreciation by lining up to get it filthy again. But, in the 2.2 seconds between me cleaning it and them filling it, it is clean and odor-free.

Pretty amazing stuff, Tom! The pink lifted out of a stained durhie, from a king-sized down comforter, and an Hermes scarf. I am still working on the water stains in the commodes, however. We have a well here in the country, delicious water, but a fair amount of dissolved iron that bonds with porcelain. I've been letting it soak and scrubbing with a plastic pot scrubber and am seeing tremendous improvement.
Whoever would have thought that something sold through infomercials for years really worked! How great that it is now available at the grocery store.

We had a black stain on the carpet in front of the TV, Eric said before he moved here, the Pro "shampooed" the carpet.. The black stain still was there for another 2 years untill he thought he'd mix up a little bit of Oxy, and poured some on it.. The black stain was gone!! The carpet isn't at the it's best since the Land Lord won't do anything to it.. The carpet is the 80's Tan! :-(
ANyway, I better go and get the wash out of the dryer!

Aaawww, Shucks, it wuddn't nuthin'. It just upsets me, the whole thing. From start to finish. Me being me, I wish I could fix it.
Yeah, I'm such a good employee I'm goofing off right now on the job! Shame on me! (o.k I'll knock time off my lunch)
You know, I've been a "silent rater" for as long as I've been here at epinions. I recently started commenting. I never thought the WOT meant anything...until today (waving hand in front of eyes)(I know, I'm such a girl)(sorry).
All I can say, is Thank You.
Whew, that was enough mush for one day, huh.
HUGS!
(((Tom)))
Hug Jack for me too, sounds like he's totally squishable.
Hang in there.

It wasn't a tangent, it was you being kind, supportive and p.issed off on my behalf. No apology necessary. I appreciate you taking the time to write what you did, and I'd love to hear from you so that I can gnash my teeth with people other than my former staff.
There should be a lot more people in our industry like you - the economy might not be so bad right now if there were.
I don't even have words to tell you how much I appreciate what you had to say, so "Thank you" will have to do.
Best regards,
Tom

I really would like to know how it works on old carpet stains. I haven't got any, but sooner or later I'm sure I will. And you're right about the Fizz-its - they're nothing more than fizzy perfume.

Y'know, Jack and I actually had a tiff on that issue - he wanted to grab a couple of brokers and "recalibrate" them. I figured that God, Fate, Karma, whatever you believe in - would do all the recalibration necessary.
They have to wake up every day and be them. Pretty grim, if you ask me.
Thanks for the support and kind words.
Best regards,

Yeah, what Theeye said... (Reply to this comment)

Whoops, made a boo boo in previous comment, had to adjust. I wrote it this morning before work (I always check bank account and epinions with my morning coffee. So here's my "big ole" commment:
You are a wonderful writer (Although I had stumbled across you before your hiatus from epinions) and I've missed you.
This was a great review. We just purchased some of this stuff over the weekend. I had some "unsightly stains" (cuz I'm not in stepford or anywhere close) in the bathtub, I was shocked that it worked.
By the way...I do work in the Securities Industry (No body hit me! Misc_el ducks and cowers, I'm only a lowly sales assistant) I have meant to comment, email, or something regarding your situation.
It's an outrage, not to mention an embarrassment to our industry. As a compliance officer you were doing your job, I mean that is. your job. I'm always trying to find bad guys, looking for strange charges on accounts and the like (Boy, could we swap stories. Except I only have stuff like a wife trying to steal $45,000 from her husband as they were going through a divorce and we caught her or a parent trying to dip into Jr's trust account from grandma...boring in comparison) Im not above thinking anyone is capable of theft or crooked transactions. Even in my own brokers. I mean, Im not going down with the ship. I will turn them in, even if it cost me my job.
Compliance officers are our police. They set our rules, guidelines to keep us from either getting sued or fired. What will this industry do if it skips that step and simply fire the Police? You have no idea how angry this makes me, I honestly lost sleep thinking about this very situation after I read your posting. At that time everything was so up in the air with the market and everything. Everyone being questioned. What is the status on that situation? Did they arbitrate? Or did this actually make it outside your firms walls?
In addition, it infuriates me that in these times such ignorance still exists. I won't go into all of that right now. Ive rambled enough as it is.
Sorry to go off on a tangent in a comment. I will try and email you one day soon. I would really like to talk with you. I wish there was something I could do to help, but I don't have any connections out that way and besides...who knows I might be employed by the very idiots who fired you. (Another thing I'm dying to know)
So, Write on Brother! You're too good at it to keep all to yourself. I hope your search for work is fruitful soon.
XOXO

The Dreaded Cat Yack Too?!? (Reply to this comment)
by thedragonweyr
With our four adult hairballs and 1 kitten, cat yack is a common occurrence. Naturally these wonderful creatures always choose to become ill on down comforters, valuable orientals, and silk upholstery. I bought a tub of this stuff, hoping it would remove those pinkish remnants without damaging the underlying fabric but did not have the nerve to try.
Tom, dear, you have given me the courage (and the curiosity) to spend the rest of the day with my own bucket of hot magic solution. I will let you know how well it does on our mineral-stained porcelain. We have some stains that have, so far, defied a day soaking under a paste of that nasty-smelling rust remover and the new scrubbing bubbles fizzie tablets (which I do not recommend, they don't do much except fizz, turn the water green, and smell nice).

Hey Tom, It's great reading your stories and writing about the products you review on.. My partner Eric, and I had a good laugh when you wrote about your dry hands... Kinda sounds like mine when I do a full day of house cleaning! LOL Also, the cat story! I have my cat, and Eric keeps asking, "Can I feed the cat this.. or that.. " I say no!! We've had a couple of mess out of it when Eric don't listen! hehe Guess who had it clean it up with Oxy Clean!?
Anyway, Keep up the great work!

Arrest the other Compliance Officers. Every last one of them, except for Tomīs closest friends. There must be a law. Next thing you know, Tom will be in management position and wonīt have time to clean anything........ maybe not such a good idea.
Still thinking.

Well. (Reply to this comment)

I just went through and read a whole bunch o' your epinions.
I always say that what keeps me here at Epinions is the occasional thrill of discovering a talented newbie.
And then what happens is I discover an old-timer whom I've inexplicably failed to notice to-date, who's got a first-rate sense of humor, an intimate familiarity with and love for the English language and some damned important things to say, to boot (just read your Origins/legislative lobbying saga). How on earth did I miss you all this time?
Very nice to make your acquaintance finally and hope to be seeing a LOT more of your writing on the site.
