| seanlee747's Full Review: Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Standard for Windo... |
I have been a flight simulator fan scene the release of flight simulator 98 that was, at the time, a great marvel. Microsoft has than evolved over the years releasing flight simulator 2000 than the current flight simulator 2002. Flight simulator 2002 is a must for your PC. Once you get started, it only gets better, with all the add-ons, you can download or purchase additional components for your flight sim (reviews coming soon for add-ons.)
The graphics are simply stunning; a select few of airports have all the amenities like jet ways (those bridge/tunnels that connect up to the aircraft.) Like aircraft, you can purchase additional components for scenery like Airport 2000 and other software titles. Default planes on the simulator have some pretty impressive sights as well. For example, opening doors and a virtual cockpit where you can actually move you head in the cockpit.
Onboard there is a huge array of aircraft available, most with there own panel and sound set. The default planes include: Booing 777-200, Booing 737-400, Boeing 747-400, Cessna Skyhawk, Cessna Skyline, Cessna Caravan (float configuration,) Bell 206B Jet Ranger III helicopter, Sopwith camel, Extra 300s, Schweitzer 2-32 sailplane, and the Learjet 45.
One of the week spots in this game is the interactive air traffic control. Here you can select form a menu what you want to say to the ATC. It comes complete with all the centers, approach, clearance deliveries, departure, and tower. It is not the best way for interactive ATC, for this I recommend multiplayer.
The best part of FS2K2 is the multiplayer; this is where you can hook up to fellow pilots on a network, including a ATC (air traffic control.) Make sure you notify the ATC that you are a new player on line, they will be much more easy on you. (I STRONGLY recommend that you have at least 2 months experience flying a plane, and you know VOR holds, ILS apaches, taxi and take off procedures.)
After a few flights online you will know all there is to know about flying a aircraft, from VORs, ILSs, SIDs, STARs etc. flying the flight simulator is a uneque experience that is both fun and educational.
I strongly recommend you have a fast PC, at least 2 Ghz, 64 Mb vidio card, and 256 Mb of RAM. Also, it is important you have a joystick, without this, flying is imposable.
Ill see you in the skys!
