eCampus.com -- Our experience with eCampus.com was less than favorable though. While we did save $4.22 on one used book over the price at the campus bookstore (even after paying for shipping); we didn't receive the required CD with the book. It also took 10 days to receive the book by postal service mail. I generally expect that when an ad reads "8th edition w/CD" that it will include the CD -- at eCampus this is just not the case...
On noticing that the CD wasn't included, I contacted eCampus.com at the email address they provided with the packing material. My emails have never been answered. So, I called customer service -- at least they do have a toll-free number. My initial discussion (after 10 minutes on hold) was with Valerie who didn't seem concerned at all that I wasn't a happy customer. When I advised her that I intended to write about my experience and that she might want to give someone a "heads up", she replied simply, "they don't care".
Getting nowhere with Valerie, I asked to speak with her supervisor and was passed on to Jill. Jill confirmed that when buying used books from eCampus.com that adjunct material such as CDs and tapes may not be included with the order. Even if the description on the web page includes those items.
When asked whether my interpretation of her comments was properly stated as "if a student must have the accompanying CDs with a book, they should not buy that book from eCampus.com" she agreed. Their printed policy is "We cannot guarantee that additional materials originally included with a new book, such as CD's, workbooks, and other supplements, will come with the used edition you purchase." You must read the company FAQ in order to find this out though and it isn't all that obvious there.
There is a return policy at eCampus that would allow us to return this book with a 10% restocking fee and postage out of our pocket. We'll just use it as a trader. Certainly, eCampus.com doesn't score very high on our list of money saving alternatives and we won't be doing business with them again. We won't call them "shady" but will call them "slackers". It's not that hard to accurately describe your inventory, other retailers do it.
