I have shopped either by catalog or online at STP for over 11 years now. I have never been disappointed with product, service or delivery.
My first experiences using the Sierra Trading Post catalog involved finding the outdoor gear that I would need to use for my job as a teacher/counselor at a therapeutic wilderness program (read "boot camp"). The pay was under 20,000 per year, I had a family of 4 with me the only bread winner. Okay, let's go through what I already have, scrounge around at Goodwill, then this great catalog was given to me at church by my son's boy scout leader. What a Godsend.
My first purchase was silkskins long underwear tops and bottoms for $9.99. Currently the price for winter silks tops and bottoms is $14.99 which is still a bargain. These were advertised as overstocks. I then purchased some climbing pants by Columbia normally around $40.00 for $15.00 these were advertised as blems. I looked and looked but could not find any defect in fabric, stitching or placement of buttons or zippers. I also bought a pair of hiking boots by Nike for $29.00. My first order arrived in a very timely manner. I paid for that mail order by check.
This winter, I was literally paralyzed by Christmas shopping, my husband's inability to do anything around the house or with me during the holidays. And I had no gifts for my kids. I used my online privilege and ordered bed in a bag for my girls. $43.00 per bed. In the package was a bed skirt, comforter, twin top and bottom sheets, 1 pillowcase. I was dangerously close to the Christmas delivery deadline, and I figured it would arrive after Christmas day, but I was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of a brown truck on Christmas Eve. My youngest giggles and laughs yet and still about Santa wearing a brown suit. Oh well, they grow up fast.
That same order contained a delivery to Montana of snowboarding goggles for my son. The price was $15.00 of a name brand which normally sells for about 35 or 40 dollars. They arrived in time for Christmas, alas he was working on Christmas Day.
They have a satisfaction guarantee, reasonable return policy, and helpful customer service.
I prefer to shop the bargain barn which is only available online. However, the paper catalog has many bargains and a decent product availability. The more average sizes and colors usually sell out quickly. If you have a paper catalog and it is marked as a limited quantity, you might want to phone in your order instead because the telephone operators can check the availability in real time.
You can choose your shipping method UPS, or post with rates varying by delivery speed. Also you can have different parts of your order shipped to different addresses.
This is usually the first place I look for casual work clothes, shoes, bedding, and outdoor gear.
Thanks for reading and rating.
