I’ll admit it, there are some things that just go over my head and one of them was programming my MP3 player. For the better part of a year it sat on my desk collecting dust and every time I would burn a CD I’d look over at the poor little player and feel a little guilty for not giving it the attention it deserves. After reading the instruction book at least ten times I finally understood what all the little symbols were for, how to upload a song and how to play them back. Now that I had that tackled, I needed to find a way to take this to the gym and have it survive. This is a very small MP3 player and I knew if I tried to clip it on me or to the treadmill it would end up getting ruined in no time. Someone suggested trying to find a case for it and that was all the motivation I needed for a trip to the electronics section of my favorite stores.
What I found amazed me, cases with zippers, Velcro, elastic and hard shelled plastic models. It was by complete accident that I found the Case Logic MP3 Player Case - and it was on sale too. After checking out the size of the case as well as the internal features I figured “It’s only $2.00, give it a try” and headed out the door with the smallest purchase I’ve ever made at Target. Getting the case home I was like a five year old with a new toy. I tried the player on both sides of the case and found that it was best to use it in the “T” shaped elastic pocket [right side]. So far this thing has held up to a lot of use at the gym, on the road when the boys use it for their GameBoy cartridges and when I use it to store my digital camera. Talk about a great investment - $2.00 for something that can be used for a multitude of items.
Features
Even though this is a small case – four inches wide by five and a half inches high – it has a lot of features. The zipper runs from the top left to the bottom left so you there is only one side section that remains connected. This is great if you want to protect your MP3 player [or any other item] but need quick access to you. You won’t have to fumble and play around with the case to get to the contents. Once you flip it open you’ll see that there are different features on each side of the case. The left side has a two and a quarter inch pocket that is layered on top of a zipper pocket. This zipper pocket runs from the top of the case to the bottom and will give you enough room for headphones [small ones], credit cards or cash, identification or spare batteries. Also, the zipper track is nice and is tucked away from the material so you will never have to worry about the inside or outside cloth getting sucked into the zipper track. The zipper pull is large ensure that you’ll have an easy time opening and closing it.
The right side of the case has a nice drop in elastic pocket that will hold your MP3 player in place no matter what you are doing. I’ve used this case to hold the player when on the treadmill at the gym [running, waling and jogging] and it help it perfectly in place. Behind the elastic pocket there is a slide in pouch that you can use to store flat items. The elastic pocket is extremely sturdy and resembles a “T” shape allowing you to plug your headphones in if your player has the jack located that the bottom or side.
Since I use this for my MP3 player as well as for carrying GameBoy cartridges this thing sees a lot of use and has held up great so far. Barring the dust it sometimes accumulates sitting on my desk or dirt from getting dropped – it’s still in the same condition as when I purchased it. Since this case is soft sided I can cram a bit more into it than the hard shell ones I looked at previously. This doesn’t give you the protection of a hard shell plastic case but it does allow the case to conform to the size and shape of the MP3 player or other items.
But What About The Color?
Truth be told, the only reason I purchased the olive green case is the price. There were at least twenty of these on the shelf – all marked down to $2.00. There were no red or blue cases in stock so I decided to just ignore the color and get it over with. The color isn’t that bad but lets just say this – the color green and I don’t agree with each other. Even thought I don’t care for the color I would think that it would hide dirt or markings the best out of the three color choices. This style of Case Logic MP3 Player case is only available in three colors – blue, red and olive green. If you see one that is black or tan, it is a different model with different internal features.
Price
As I said, I picked this up on sale for $2.00 but the regular suggested retail price ranges from $6.99 to $9.99 depending on where you are shopping. Is it worth it? Let’s put I this way, if I had the chance to purchase this again, knowing what I know about it this very minute, I would definitely buy it again – even if it weren’t on sale. When you look at all the features this case offers you verses the price and durability – you are going to be the one making out in the end because – unless you lose it – you aren’t going to have to worry about replacing it any time soon. I picked this one up at Target but these are also sold at best Buy, Office Depot, Wal-Mart and a lot of online stores that sell electronics and related accessories.
The Bottom Line
Considering that this was on sale for $2.00 I couldn’t complain about it even if I wanted to – but so far I haven’t found one thing to complain about except the color. The internal pockets and elastic pouch make it easy to keep your MP3 player safe and secure while allowing you easy access to all its features. I suggest this for anyone that has a small MP3 player, small digital camera or pocket organizer. If you are looking for a soft-sided case that will serve you well and protect your device, I highly suggest checking out this Case Logic product.
