Beware of Bad Service

Feb 13 '01

The Bottom Line If you want to be poorly treated by a company, your chances are good with IBM.

I purchased a Thinkpad which I love. It is great.

BUT...

After I had used the restore CD on my system, I discovered that this CD had an OLDER version of Lotus Smart Suite than the one that was actually on the hard drive of the computer.

This means that documents I created after getting my laptop are now inaccessible to me because I no longer have the software that created them. It would be like getting Office 2000 on your computer and then after reformatting, you discover the manufacturer gave you a copy of Office 97 with which to restore. Basically, you would not be able to even open your office documents.

This is a serious blunder. One which IBM should have corrected immediately. Unfortunately, it has been 2 weeks and they have not responded. I was nice. No response. I was nasty. No response. I even apologized for being nasty. No response. Can you imagine the difficulty this has created for me? I will probably have to go out and buy the newest version of Smart Suite so I can access my documents again. But, I guess, that might just be what IBM wants since they own Lotus.
