| Naomi7835's Full Review: Rubbermaid Stain Shield Round Storage Container 1.... |
When I first saw these Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers in Wal*Mart, I just knew that I had to buy a few of them to try out. I like to make large amounts of spaghetti sauce, chili or homemade soups . Sometimes I will put these foods in large containers to freeze just in case the kids come over or I get some unexpected company over for dinner.
I also like to freeze smaller individual portions in smaller containers for my husband or my self to have for lunch or dinner. I like to do this with stews, homemade soups and of course spaghetti sauce, because their easy to just pop in the microwave to be heated up. I used to use Glad containers for these, but eventually the covers always ended up getting cracked on the corners of the lids, and I usually always ended up buying more containers.
So when I saw these Rubbermaid Stain Shield Round Storage Containers in our Wal*Mart store, I grabbed a few containers to try out. I purchased 4 of the small Rubbermaid Stain Shield Round Storage Containers 1.6 Pt. 5850 containers at $2.74 each. These Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage containers come in all different sizes, and round and square shapes also. The reason I picked the smaller size was because they do come in handy to freeze for individual servings of several foods for hubby and myself. I did go back to Wal*Mart a few days later and I purchased 4 more of the 1.6 Pt. size containers. Next week I plan on going back and purchasing some of the larger sizes.
So far I have noticed that these Rubbermaid Stain-Shield Storage Containers do resist tomato staining when I had my spaghetti sauce in them. But a note of caution here is if you have any foods that do contain curry thats seasoned with tumeric, you may end up with some staining. The Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers are only designed to resist staining only from Tomato based foods. So far I haven't had any tomato staining in these Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage containers which is nice. There is nothing worst then having to use a stained plastic container, even if it has been thoroughly washed and cleaned. Now with these Rubbermaid Storage containers, they always look fresh and clean looking.
Features of the Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers:
Storing Leftovers--- The Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers can be used for storing any left overs in the refrigerator also. There's no guess work here, because the clear see through lids and the containers makes it easy to be able to see what's being stored in them.
Freezer Safe---I've found that a variety of foods can be safely frozen in these containers.
Microwavable----These Rubbermaid Storage containers are nice for re-heating up foods in the microwave. But avoid any prolonged and excessive heating in them. This may cause the container to deform.
I also think it's great that these Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage containers can be taken directly from my freezer to the microwave to be re-heated. This is nice especially if you running late or your time is limited. It's also recommended that you use the defrost setting when your reheating anything in the containers.
I always make sure to vent the lid by lifting the rim on the top just enough to break the seal before microwaving. By doing this it will avoid any excessive steam build up that could cause injury when removing the lid.
Space Feature:
These containers only need minimal storage space. Each storage container, as long as their the same size, will fit inside of each other very nicely. Because the lids are designed so nice, and have a rubberized edging, the containers will sit nicely in the lid for storing, and the rubberized edging in the lid which will prevent the containers from sliding all around in the cabinet.
Containers of the same shape will also fit down inside the next larger sized container. I don't have a lot of room in my cabinets, so stacking the containers this way really helps on storage space, and helps to keep all the lids all together with the containers. I just hate it when I have a container and have to search for the proper fitting lid.
Container and lid:
Both the container and lid has a nice clear see-through plastic. I like the idea of both the lid and the container being clear, this way I don't have to label all of my lids on the containers to let me know what is being stored in them.
The lid is soft and flexible, with a rubberized edging all around it. The lids make a nice tight seal. Even though the lids fit the containers very snugly, their still very easy to remove. The lids on my old containers were not a soft plastic, and after some usage the lids always would end up cracking on the lid. which led me to have to buy more containers.
On the top lid there is an extended tab, which makes opening the container easy. Just beyond the tab on the top of the lid there is a small sort of a rough area for the thumb to rest which will give you more leverage when pulling off the lid. I've had plastic containers that you almost had to pry the lid off with a crow bar. But like I said these lids come off easily with no trouble at all.
The lid will stay snugly on, and I don't have to worry about these Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers tipping over when stored and spilling out the contents of any of my foods.
There is a extended rim all around the top edge of the container. This rim serves as handles and makes the container easy to remove from the microwave that may contain any hot foods or just for removing frozen foods from the freezer or any stored foods from your refrigerator.
Cleaning the Rubbermaid Stain-Shield Storage Containers:
I have to hand wash out the Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage containers in hot soapy water, but if your lucky enough to have a dishwasher, these Rubbermaid Containers are dishwasher safe, as long as they are placed on the top rack of the dishwasher. And before any Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Container is being used for the very first time it's a good idea to always wash out the container before using it.
It's also not a good idea to use abrasive cleaners or scratch pads on the containers, as these will leave permanent scratches in the container. When I had my wrist in a cast and couldn't wash my dishes, my husband did help to wash them for me. One of the containers had some dried on stew in it, and he did use a SOS pad to get it out, only to leave some scratches in the bottom of one of my containers. Now I will not use this container for freezing or storing anything in it with a tomato base, in fear that the tomato stain will settle in the scratches and won't come out. Of course it's still very usable, but now I have to be careful and only use it for storing or freezing any foods that don't have a tomato base in it, which is still alright.
Warranty:
These Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers come with a Lifetime Warranty. Of course the warranty will not cover damage caused by accident, misuse, or abuse. This includes damage due to melting, warping, burning, or scratches.
My Final Recommendation:
I really love these Rubbermaid Stain Shield 1.6 pt. size Storage Containers. They store and freeze well, can be reheated in the microwave, stack well and best of all no more red stained containers from tomato based foods. Although I guess I will have to hide those SOS cleaning pads away and keep them hidden from my hubby. These Rubbermaid Stain Shield Storage Containers are very inexpensive and come in a variety of sizes and shapes and will make a good investment for the wear that they will give you. I recommend them highly.
Thanks for reading and have a Healthy and Super 2003.
