Re: How is handwriting recognition?? (Reply to this comment)
by balleger
The handwriting recognition is not anywhere near as good as the PC Tablets. This recognizer was designed for cursive script, which I don't have very much luck with. So I wind up printing most of the time. However, I am constantly correcting the text output by the recognizer. I guess you can't expect much from this recognizer because there is no ability to train it to recognize your own style of handwriting. I would take a look at the Tablet PC products, which are full laptop-class computers.

How is handwriting recognition?? (Reply to this comment)
by spinedoc
Im extremely interested in this product to take and modify quick patient notes and print them out while on the go. How have you owners found the handwriting recognition in MS Word? I only need to write a few sentences per patient, so its not like Im writing a book. Preferably I would pull up an existing MS word patient template and edit it, save it and print it right on the spot.
When comparing the handwriting recognition would you say its better than pocket pc or palm? How about compared to a full tablet PC?

Re: My experiance with the new Airpanel (Reply to this comment)

Hi! The only point I was trying to make with the price change is that ViewSonic will be including another SKU that does not incorporate the NIC & OS. If this had been available in addition to the SKU that I ordered, then I could have saved the extra bucks because my environment already meant the requirements. As far as I know they don't intend to eliminate the current SKU, both will be available in order to try to please everyone.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your AirPanel. I have yet to use it in bed, probably only because I keep a good sci-fi book on the nightstand. I know I will use it in bed if I get sick this winter.
I am also wondering what is wrong in my environment that it always takes 1.5 minutes or so to make the connection between host and panel. What kind of wireless router or AP are you using? Do you have WEP enabled? If so, how many bits, etc.?

I'm glad you enjoyed my review. Don't give up. There are other companies that are supposed to make their own SmartDisplay. Maybe they will have better prices or maybe ViewSonic will surprise us all and lower their price significantly. Also, the list price of a color universal remote control, such as the Philips Pronto (color version), is just under $1,000. Yet it is only a remote control. With the Nevo upgrade the ViewSonic AirPanel V110 is a much better buy. Anyway, take care and watch for any future revisions. I just sent in for my free Nevo upgrade kit. Let's see just how long it takes before they're available. -Bob.

Though I will probably never spend the cash on such toy (despite of being an extreme gadget lover), it was interesting to read about it. (Thanks for completing the review and making it informative.)
