Pros:Good customer service. Great completed call ratio.
Cons:Poor deal for those who travel at all.
The Bottom Line: Customer Service has been great. The plans available would be excellent for people who don't travel much.

My wife and I have been using Suncom for close to two years now and have been very satisfied with the customer service we have received. There have been a two specific occasions we needed their assistance, one of which was not the fault of Suncom at all. In both instances, Suncom removed all related charges with no hassles. In addition to their customer service, we have never had an issue with a call not going through.

Suncom's biggest problem, however, is that it is not a nationwide company. My wife and I live in the Roanoke, VA, area and travel regularly to Washington D.C. Up until last summer, SunCom allowed use of the entire AT&T network as part of their basic calling plan. However, individuals needing this sort of flexibility are charged an additional $15/month with no additional minutes.

We recently began looking around at our other options and found significantly better deals with other companies. Sprint, for instance, (who we ultimately went with for the second phone) has a series of plans, the lowest of which gives an equal amount of minutes as our SunCom plan, but for a cheaper rate and the ability to use the phone anywhere on the Sprint PCS network. The network area of Sprint far exceeds that of SunCom's. The only way SunCom users can come close to this flexibility is to pay the additional $15/month to access the AT&T network as well.

If, however, you have no intention of traveling any place outside of the SunCom network, this company would be an excellent option. Already, we have noticed significantly fewer problems connecting a call in the Roanoke area on our SunCom phone than with our Sprint phone. We will likely keep both phones, but drop the AT&T extension on the Suncom phone and use it only locally since we were very happy with the call quality and the customer service.

In short, if you don't travel much, SunCom is a great plan to consider. Otherwise, better deals can be found elsewhere.
