Re: Good informative review... (Reply to this comment)

Thanks for the comments, and more importantly, the input on OS X. I know very, very little about OS X, and always love hearing about Apple's latest operating system. I'll likely wind up with that here at work, so it's good to know what options are out there.
You are correct -- the "browser market" does seem to be getting interesting again. It appeared, for quite some time, as if Microsoft had it all locked up. However, I figure the sloppy products from that company have inspired others to look elsewhere.
That's how it happened in my case, anyway. I would have stuck with IE on my Mac if the blasted thing would have worked effectively. I'm sure I'm not alone in making the switch from IE, and that presents a bad situation for Microsoft. Perhaps the firm just can't help piecing together buggy software packages and then rushing them out he door.

Good informative review... (Reply to this comment)

... but you still won't catch me dead using Netscape 7 in Mac OS X though... Performance may be excellent in Mac OS 9, but in OS X, there are many more options, and NS7 and IE5 are both in the SLOW camp.
About IE and Mac OS X...IE is easily outclassed in every way on the Mac... OS 9 and OS X especially. Its really quite sad.
Oh, and just some more background of Netscape 7's relationship with Mozilla... Several years ago, Netscape decided to open source its browser, and the Mozilla project was born... Mozilla is still funded by Netscape, and AOL Time Warner. Based on the Gecko rendering engine, Mozilla turned 1.0 just last year. Netscape, however, has been periodically using the Mozilla codebase as a starting point for its Netscape browser... Netscape 6 and 6.2 were based on earlier betas of Mozilla, and Netscape 7 is based on 1.0. They share much in common... the same skins work on both, generally. Not only that, but last i checked, i could not run both Mozilla and Netscape at the same time on my computer because of their similarities.
That being said, i don't use Netscape or Mozilla all that often... since i use OS X exclusively now, I use some of the newer additions that i really like and recommend alot... My primary browser is still Chimera, another Gecko based browser, this time with a fast front end and user interface native to OS X... it also has such goodies as tabbed browsing and is fast. And, of course, apple's new browser Safari, which is svelt and fast.
Browsers are getting very interesting again, especially on the Mac. Good review again.

Thanks for that! Actually, all one really needs to know about this browser comes down to two things -- it's free and a hell of a lot better than Internet Explorer.
Thanks for the comment, and take care!

on any technical reviews you do. You, of all people know how totally untechnical I am.
:(
Everything looked fantastic to me, and everyone else seemed to give it the same VH rating that I did. And even though I VH it because it seems so well written, and chocked full of detail, it's all still tech greek to me.
So hopefully, one of those more qualified to speak about these things will step up to pinch hit for me here in the way of the praise I'm sure all your technical reviews deserve!
:)
