Etronics.com I gambled and placed an order!

I have read the reviews on Etronics.com and know they are across the board with love/hate ratings. I admit that would have stopped me from ordering a high price item, especially since there were a lot of "no shows" in that area!
But, I needed a couple of lower priced items only and since they had the lowest price, I took a chance.
MY EXPERIENCE
I needed a couple of accessories for my Sony camcorder. I of course looked and looked and then looked again at site after site to make sure I would be getting the best deal!
The actual ordering process went pretty smoothly. Their search option is a joke (see below) UNLESS you know the exact name and model number of what you need. Once I had that figured out, there were no hang ups. I was given a choice checking out to register or not. Although I choose to register, I like having this option.
I was sent an E-mail confirmation and a notice when my item was shipped, along with the tracking number.
My credit card was charged BEFORE my items were shipped, in fact within an hour of my order! Again, this is one reason I only ordered low priced items.
Because of the horror stories of others not receiving their items, I checked mine through both the status page and the UPS tracking system a couple of times. They both seemed to be right up to date.
My order ordered arrived, undamaged, in 10 days (from New York to Washington State) and with the manufacturer warranties enclosed.
Everything went smoothly so I did not have to deal with Customer Service at any time.
FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND
Across the top there are two bars that follow you throughout the site. On the top bar there are 9 choices
• home • search • my account • order status • Shopping Cart • My Wish List • About Us • Contact Us • Privacy
On the lower bar there are 6 more choices • Electronics • Battery Central • Appliances • Personal Care • Buying Guide • NYC Store
There is also a Search Option that can be VERY frustrating! Here is what I went through ~~
1. I put in Sony and got back 1365 matches with the following Search Suggestions: sony store • sony subwoofer • sony camcorder • 32 inch tv • sony digital camera • digital camera • trv27 • camcorders • digital camcorder • digital video cameras
2. TRYING to narrow it down I put in Sony Accessories and 4100 matches came up! Somehow by adding Accessories to my search I GAINED 2735 items!!
3. Now I had a mission! So, thinking I had it figured out I typed in Sony Camcorder Accessories knowing the number would be greatly reduced. Not! This brought up 4364 matches!! By specifying which type of Sony Accessories I wanted, I GAINED another 264 items!!
That was enough for me ~ I finally found my items by going through the Sony website (and 800 number) and using that!
If you want to browse, the search option might be acceptable but it falls VERY short otherwise.
Products are displayed with photos, descriptions, stock update, links to view other items and the price. There is no link for more information but most of the descriptions are good enough to understand the product.
SHIPPING AND TAXES
As you place items in your cart, your updated shipping estimate is shown. Personally, I prefer a set shipping cost than dealing with estimates. I will say my final shipping cost were what the estimate stated.
They do have HIGH shipping! My order came to just under $63 and my shipping choices were ~
UPS Ground - $17.18
UPS 3-DAY - $33.00
UPS 2-Day - $51.80
UPS Overnight - $72.60
Because their prices were so low, even with the high shipping cost added in, I spent less than I would have at the other sites I checked.
On a side note ~ I checked the price of the Sony CD player I bought my daughter for Christmas and I had been able to easily beat their price BEFORE shipping was even brought in. So, ALWAYS check around, even though they are much lower on some items, they are NOT lower on ALL items!
I was NOT charged taxes for an order sent to Washington and could not find any tax information on the site. I would assume orders sent to New York would be charged tax.

While my order went smoothly, I would NOT purchase a big ticket item from Etronics.com because of two reasons ~~
1. All the negative reviews from people who have never gotten their items.
2. The HIGH shipping cost ~ I can only imagine the amount charged on a expensive purchase!
With those two reasons, I would be worried that I would be charged, then have to fight for my order and/or money back. And if I had a problem, I would never get the HIGH shipping amount credited back.
That being said, I WOULD recommend Etronics.com for less expensive items IF their prices were still less after adding in those HIGH shipping fees.
This is another case where it is REALLY important to shop around AND add in the shipping cost to find the very best deal!
