Andrea, AKA Pluckyduck, keeps swearing to all that's holy on Epinions that an Online review can be written with the basics of: I came, I shopped, I ordered, the product got delivered on time, I'm happy, I'll shop there again. Let's see if I can be that basic.
I came
I went to decoratetoday.com for a recent home improvement project because it is the online version of American Wallpaper and Blinds. I trust them to have quality products and comparable prices. Why? Because my Momma told me so. No kidding, my mother has done literally hundreds of home decorating projects in her home, my home and helping friends and family members with projects. She has comparison shopped in brick and mortar stores and shopped online and found this company to be trustworthy. I have to agree.
I shopped
For this project, I knew I was looking for a border and it had to complement the paint my 14-year-old chose for her new room- purple. Oh, and it couldn't be too... how did she put it? "too childish." Beyond that, I had no ideas.
The search feature is excellent. You can limit your search to wallpaper, border, fabric, accessories or murals. You can search by keyword description. The keyword search engine seems to use Boolean (i.e.: uses 'and', 'or', etc.) If you already know what you're looking for, you can also search by book name, book number, pattern number or style/designer/manufacturer. Under the style section there are options like Thomas Kinkade, NFL teams, or Laura Ashley.
You can also search by color or design. This is how I made my successful search. I limited my search to borders, chose purple and 'no preference'. This gave me 306 choices so I started narrowing down the search by choosing selected design options. They have hundreds of choices- everything from abstract to zodiac. I ended up finding a border I never would have thought to look for on my own.
When you find a sample you might like, you can click on it and get a bigger view. When you do, you will see the product details. They list all the essentials like size, pattern repeat, shipping info, and if the paper is strippable, washable and/or pre-pasted. They will also show coordinating patterns that will complement the style you chose. This is the same area where you can check the current price for your choice, order a $5 sample of the wallpaper, add items to your shopping cart, or see all the items from the same wallpaper book.
This is also where you can add things to your online scrapbook. This is where they'll collect your "maybe pile" so you can look at them all together and compare them when you're ready to decide. The great thing about adding something to your scrapbook is clicking on it, doesn't change what page you are on (unlike adding something to your Wishlist at Amazon.com). When you are ready, you can do a side-by-side comparison of all your choices.
I ordered
Purchasing was easy. Decide how much you need using the online Wallpaper Calculator, if needed. The rest is similar to most online shopping sites, but there are a few things you should know.
1. UPS Ground is FREE but there is a $5 processing fee on all orders.
2. When you fill out your address and billing info it will be remembered the next time you shop.
3. There are many payment options. They have their own credit card and they even take Diner's Club and checks. You can also pay by phone or Fax.
4. Their toll free number is at the top of each web page.
5. They post their contact information and Privacy Policy in clear and brief (read not "legalese") language in an easy to find location.
the product got delivered on time
It came earlier than expected actually. It arrived in perfect condition in a bubble wrapped envelope. The border came with instructions for application and a copy of the billing information with a contact number in case of any problems.
I'm happy, I'll shop there again
Yep. I'm extremely happy with this website. Tooling around on this site is very user friendly with a low learning curve. I was able to use all the features without having to look up instructions. There are many more products available including window treatments, bedding, and area rugs.
I love the scrapbook feature. It enabled me to save an unlimited amount of "maybe" choices to show to my daughter. My mother could also log into it and see the choices from her computer at the same time that I was looking at it from my computer with my daughter. This enabled us to narrow the choices down and make a final decision. I could also email the final choice to her mother so she could purchase an area rug that would compliment the new room.
I'm also impressed at how upfront this company is about their service. Having a working toll-free number, a contact address, posted policies and a 100% satisfaction guarantee makes a company more trustworthy.
