This DVD drive gave me more trouble than it was worth, by far. I bought it at a local Circuit City for the fact that it was the least expensive DVD-ROM drive they had in stock.
Well, now I know why it was the least expensive. This drive seems to carry some kind of time-bomb, when it gets a years worth of use, it stops working. I talked to several other dissatisfied customers that bought this product and not a single person hasn't had some kind of problem with it.
One day this drive decided it wasn't going to play dvds anymore, in fact, it wasn't going to even recognize them! Suddenly I was left with an 85 dollar CD-ROM drive (yes, it would play CDs, if that even makes a difference) and a quickly dwindling warranty.
I called up I/O magic technical support and was put on hold for something like 3 hours. After that plan failed, I went online and made a tech-support request via email. This was roughly two months ago and my email still hasn't been given a response. I/O Magic offers a tech support message board, but there are no techs to be found, and if they are to be found, they seem to be simply copying and pasting generic 'answers' to the questions customers are asking.
Finally resorting to the 'Live Help' option, I was put on 'virtual hold' for about 45 minutes before a tech came into the chat and proceeded to be rude and unhelpful. He suggested I file for a return and get a new drive.
At this point, I don't want to get a new I/O Magic DVD-ROM drive (the likes of which will no doubt be defective again), I want my money back!
