Pros: Great sound reproduction. USEABLE features. Nice style.
Cons: Some of the buttons are hard to control - too close together.
The Bottom Line: Shop around, but don't waste your money on anything else. If you can't afford an Alpine, save your money until you can. You'll be glad you did!!

| kbee00's Full Review: Alpine Car Stereo CDA-7873 Camcorder |
I'm only taking the time out of my schedule to write this because I think this is about the best car stereo unit I've ever owned - and at my age - I've owned quite a few. I've spent 3 times as much money and gotten less than half the sound reproduction with other so called "quality" systems. I'm not going to go into a long technical explanation of what is going on - but being someone in the profession of sound reproduction - I have some knowledge of the design of a unit like this. Ok, lets get the facts on the table. This is what I have for a system: The car is 1994 Miata. I have a set of Fosgate 6-1/2's in the doors with passive x-overs to send the highs to the externally mounted tweeters. On the rear deck behind the seats is a JL Audio Sub Box which contains a set of 6" down firing subs. It's carpeted and matches the interior of the car (black or dk grey - whatever) and is bolted to the deck and held in by the Miata's cross brace. In the truck, mounted to a piece of plywood, and located in the sunken center section, are a set of amps. The Orion 280 feeds the JL Audio Sub Box and the MTX260 feeds the fronts. It's all wired properly, with grounds and power wires separated from the speaker wires, etc. Professionally done. I installed the Alpine and got it all powered up and ready to go and when the first few notes came out of the system - I knew this was going to be a special sound system. I couldn't belive how clear it was - and the Alpines' many sound control features - Bass Engine, etc. - really have allowed me to fine tune this thing so that at full freeway speeds with the top down - the sound reproduction is incredible. And around town at city street speeds, I don't need to blast my way thru town - I can listen at a courteous level and it sounds absolutely awesome. The clarity and crispness is very good and the freedom to make changes to the sound is so simple using the Alpine's controls - other than some of the buttons being so close together for my big meathooks - that I can make a small change so that the REO Speedwagon guitars shine but I can still get the shriek of Audioslave "Conchise" without distortion or high level breakup. I have just purchased the Alpine XM unit TUA-T020XM and a glass mount antenna, so I can go "satelite" cruisin'! $270 complete and a measly $10 a month - we live in great times for cars and music. And that's all I have to say about that....
