This IS NOT Just for Kids! A Phone For Any Mickey Mouse Lover!

Written: Feb 03 '03 (Updated Feb 03 '03)
Pros:Fun! Mickey moves & talks when the phone "rings"
Cons:Some may find it annoying
The Bottom Line: I've enjoyed Mickey for over and year and he's performed well--this isn't a toy, it's a 900mhz Cordless powerhouse!

I was a certified Disney freak for a few years—so much so that I got a second job working at the Disney Store. While there (5 years) I amassed a great amount of Disney products. This is the last telephone I purchased—a cordless animated Mickey Mouse phone.

I’ve owned it one year and it works great. Like any cordless phone, it does have to be returned to its base in order to stay charged, but other than that there’s no hassle. It has 40-channels with digital security codes to help keep others from listening in on your call. Less channels means it’s more likely you and your neighbor will be on the same channel. However, it’s never wise to conduct sensitive business over a cordless phone—like dialing into your banks automated system, it’s just too easy for someone to record the tones, dial up themselves, and gain access to your money.

Mickey promises 5 hours of talk time and up to 5 days of standby time. I’ve never talked for 5 hours straight so I can’t confirm it, but it’s quite often we lose the handset for 5 days (or more) and when I do find it it’s almost always lifeless, so that appears correct.

Mickey can be switched off (to the ring only mode—a normal electronic ring) if you get tired of him telling you the phone’s ringing. My husband switched it off so long ago I’d almost forgotten he talked. When on, Mickey moves his head from side-to-side and points to the handset (or where the handset would be if it was there) with his left hand and says in his Mickey Mouse voice:

Ring 1: "Oh, boy! A phone call!"
Ring 2: "I wonder who it could be?"
Ring 3: "It's for you!"
Ring 4: "Well, what you know. It’s for you!"
Ring 5: "Hi'ya, pal. You got a phone call!"

Mickey keeps moving to and fro and repeating his message, in the order above, until you answer.

Ok, so I love it but it annoys my husband. If you just can’t get enough of it, or you want to torture a housemate, there’s a “demo” button on the base of the phone you can press to send Mickey through his paces without waiting for a call.

The handset features: 10-number memory dialer; last-number redial; out-of-range indicator (led light); low battery indicator (led light); and volume control (handset).

The base features: handset locater; switchable ringer; tone/pulse option; volume control (to turn down Mickey’s voice).

The handset locater is the most frequently used feature on our phone—we’re constantly losing the handset. Press a button on the base and as long as the handset battery hasn’t gone dead, it’ll beep. If the handset batteries are dead, you’re out of luck.

The handset itself it shaped in comical curved exclamation point—at least that’s how I interpret it. It’s easy to hold,

The phone has great range—I can talk from the driveway without any static or dropping of the call. The calls are clear and crisp as well—what you’d expect from a corded phone.

I’ve enjoyed this phone and hope to for years to come. My other phone is an M&M Candy phone!
