Pros: Great Looks, Handling, ride, and reasonable performance from our 98 318iA
Cons: The 'check engine' light is on all the time it seems.
The Bottom Line: Buy one if you are wealthy and don't mind becoming best pals with your mechanic because you'll see more of him than your wife or husband.

Darn it! I love this car BUT it is costing an arm and leg to keep it on the road. In less than ONE YEAR we had to replace the following: Right door lock actuator, Left door lock actuator, windshield wiper control arm, post converter O2 sensor, cam shaft sensor, vacuum line sensor, driver side seat belt tightener (twice), engine catalytic converter air pump, heating control faceplate, and $69 for an oil-change (this doesn't count a new windshield too).
I could have bought a new ACCORD for the price and the expense. But then.... it isn't a Beemer.
I do not know if I would buy another one. A new one that has a warranty.... maybe. But not another 318 or another 1998. Funny thing is, I have only read good stuff about this car in 'Lemon' guides and MSN.
