Easy to shop here, but know your prices. by dlstewart | Feb 08 '03 My mother started collecting Betty Crocker Points before I was born. Now I also collect them...it’s become a family tradition. This review focuses on the Betty Crocker Catalog and what you can purchase with your Betty Crocker Points. Note: ...Return to opinion

Thanks for the update. As you can see, the post was written 6 years ago, but it's nice to see a final update regarding the store. Thanks for adding it.
Best,
George

Closed for good! (Reply to this comment)

The Betty Crocker Points Catalog Shop closed forever in December 2006. You can now throw away all those many points you spent years saving. They will still sell you their items for money but the points are worthless.

Hi Kate! I think it's just like everything else ... know your prices before purchasing. Betty Crocker reminds me a bit of office supply store catalogs that show a list price that is usually very high and then "their" price, which is much lower. Is it a gimmick to lure the consumer into thinking they've achieved a fantastic deal? I'm not sure what these high list prices are based on. That's why I do a lot of comparison shopping before making a purchase. I hate spending more money than I have to!
Does Betty Crocker hope consumers will buy more of their products in order to buy their merchandise at the lower price? I'm sure it must have occurred to them. But I use Betty Crocker products anyway, so collecting the points doesn't mean I'm purchasing more of their merchandise.
Thank you for reading my review and commenting on it!
Enjoy your day ~~ Dawn

This was an excellent, info-packed review. It made me think seriously about doing this program, except:
Considering your T-Fal purchase: Do you think Betty Crocker might be using a huge mark-up on its products just to get people to buy more Betty Crocker stuff to lower the price to what other stores regularly charge?

I'll have to check this site out (Reply to this comment)

I didn't know that you could look up the items in the catalog online. I'll have to check it out. I've been collecting the points forever but found that some of the items were really not worth it if you really didn't need them. I haven't looked at a catolog in years actually (but still have those points!).
Thanks.

I have tons of Betty Crocker Points, but never used them because, as your review points out, you don't really save all that much by ordering through Betty Crocker. Yes, you "save" off of their prices, but I can usually find their discounted price to be only a few dollars different from regular stores.
