| patch3boys's Full Review: 3M Lint Roller |
Anyone who has a little boy knows that you never (and I mean NEVER) throw a pair of their jeans into the washer without first checking all the pockets thoroughly, agreed? You would especially know this if you have three of these little boys, never an empty pocket accounted for and many a ruined loads of laundry, right? Well, you would think so but it never fails that at least one pair of these jeans (pockets full of tissue, paper and candy wrappers) will get passed the "inspection" process and go on to take down an entire load of clean laundry. Ugh!!! I hate that.
So what do you do when this happens? You grab your scotch tape, wrap it profusely around your hand several times (sticky side out) to make a handmade lint collector and then go to town trying to get all the tiny sized pieces of paper and tissue off each and every article of clothing in the "lint contaminated" load. And yes, you have to do this because throwing them all back into the washer for a second wash just wont get it. Ugh!!! Did I mention how much I hate that?
Scotch tape hands are a thing of the past
Knowing my ongoing "dirty pocket" dilemma, I finally broke down and bought the 3M Lint Roller in hopes of making my life a bit easier. Not only was this the reasonable solution, but think of all the money I would save on scotch tape?
The 3M Lint Roller only cost a few dollars, which I would later find to be more than worth it. I could have kicked myself up and down the hallway for not purchasing one of these earlier. This has made my laundry life so much easier and it is much more convenient than messing with all that scotch tape.
What you have is a roll of sticky sheets (sticky side out) on a plastic roller. Each sheet is perforated so that you can easily tear it off and throw it away after you have used it. There is a cover plastic sheet that wraps around the roll when it is not in use to keep the outer sheet clean and ready for the next use.
To use, just simply remove this outer sheet, roll the sticky up and down the "lint contaminated" article of clothing until the sticky has collected all the lint off the clothing and unto the roller. Tear that used piece of sticky off and toss it. Don't forget to re wrap the outer sheet back around the roll to keep the top piece clean and sticky for the next use.
How convenient is that? I love it. And it works really, really well. Much better than my tape trick used to work. With the tape the best you could do is just pat the tape on and off of the clothing to try to pick up as much as possible, but with the lint roller the actual rolling action lifts a lot more lint off in a much quicker time.
When you have gone through and used up all the sticky sheets, you are able to purchase a refill roll. Exchanging the two out is very simple. Just pop the empty one off and the new one on. I have found my lint roll to last me several months before having to replace it. However, how quickly you go through an entire roll will fluctuate depending on each family and how often they use it.
Sticky is as sticky does
The sticky sheets on the 3M Lint Roller work very well. I have yet to have a job that these couldn't handle. On some of the bigger jobs I have had to use more than one sticky to get the job done though, but never more than that. The reason being is that if the sheet gets too full of lint, it won't have the same stickiness as a fresh sheet and therefore not be as effective. So, whenever I start to notice that it isn't picking up to its optimal ability, I know it is time to start using a new sheet. However, I have found one thing to be a given. You will never be able to use one sheet for more than one article of clothing. They are good, but not that good. The basic rule of thumb is one sheet per job.
I have also found our lint roller to come in handy for those quick jobs. If you are one who wears a lot of black clothing (like I do) it is inevitable that you will collect lint or animal hair just normally throughout the day. With this lint roller it is very convenient just to run the roller quickly over your shirt or pants (while you're wearing it) half way through the day to get rid of those extra pieces of lint and hair you have picked up.
Being so compact it is very easy to store your lint roller. At no bigger than my hair brush, I keep mine in my dresser drawer for easy access whenever I need it. Taking it along on trips is also very convenient and something that I have found to come in real handy.
It's a no lose situation
I have found my lint roller to be one of the more handy and used tools that I have. It didn't cost hardly anything and has definitely helped make my life easier. No longer do I have to play around with scotch tape and go through a big ordeal every time I forget a Kleenex in the pocket of something I am washing. My lint collector is always handy and ready to take on the job at hand in a quick and effective manner.
I will keep well stocked on my sticky rolls so that I never have to fumble with scotch tape again, because lets just face it, my little boys dirty pockets aren't going anywhere.
I think you will find having one of these lint rolls very useful. 3M makes one that works very well. The size is convenient, the price is right and the quality you get in the stickiness with the 3M is exceptional. So move over scotch tape, there's a new sheriff in town.
