| calband36's Full Review: AT&T Mobile Phone Service in San Francisco/San Jos... |
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS SERVICE?
I have been with Cingular for around 2 years. To be blunt, I had a horrible time with Cingular (check out my review on Cingular for more info). I chose AT&T because I knew several people who were with AT&T and they always seem to get reception in the oddest places--i.e. the basement of a building. However, I was hesistant to sign up with AT&T because it did not have a GSM network. In other words, it was not compatible with other networks around the world. In laymen terms, I cannot send txt messages to other countries (like Cingular or T-Mobile's GSM network). Just recently, however, AT&T started their own GSM network--and that finally led me to sign up with this wireless provider.
EXPERIENCE WITH THE SERVICE.
I've been on this service for only a few weeks. But so far, so good. I must say, it's a huge improvement from Cingular--but that's not saying much. I can now get reception in almost every place i couldn't get reception before. However, AT&T's GSM network does NOT have as good reception range as their digital service. If you are looking for amazing reception quality and range, go for AT&T's digital service.
So why did I choose the GSM network?
Well, I wanted to send txt messages to my mom who lives in another country. Like what I said before, I was able to in the first week or so. But, after 3 weeks, I haven't been able to send txt messages. Why? I'm not sure. So, what is the GSM system anyway? To tell you the truth, I'm not exactly sure. However, I do know that most of the world is on the GSM network. This means that it will be much easier to communicate internationally. There's a good website that describes what the GSM network is and its plan for the future...the website is www.gsmworld.com That website can explain the GSM network more than I ever can.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS SERVICE?
Reception! Coming from a service provider like Cingular, I'm so amazed by the reception I get on AT&T. I can go anywhere and not have to worry about poor reception. There are also very few, in any, "server/network busy" messages. What I like best is the fact that AT&T is planning to create more cell sites/cell towers to ensure that its customers get better reception. Additionally, this allows AT&T to adjust to the increasing demand of its growing customer base. Also, I don't know about the customer service yet, because I haven't gotten my 1st bill! :) But the customer service at their stores is quite good. They have friendly and very helpful sales associates who will usually give you good deals. If you tell them that another store is selling one of their phones cheaper. They will most likely match their price. Plus, you get unlimited nights and weekends!
WHAT DO YOU HATE?
Not much yet. Except for the fact that I cannot send txt messages to the Philippines right now. Also, I wish I can get mobile-2-mobile on plans that are under $30.
WHO SHOULD CHOOSE THIS SERVICE?
People who want good reception! Whether you want to have a GSM network or a digital network provider, AT&T is the right choice. It is also for people who want a good amount of minutes. It also lowered its prices to match Cingular's and T-mobile's.
WHAT OTHER OPTIONS SHOULD PEOPLE CONSIDER?
If you don't want to sign up for GSM, you should consider AT&T's digital service. It probably has the best reception around.
