A Bit Bulky, But Worth It

Written: Feb 20 '03
Pros:Excellent sound quality, good price, comfortable
Cons:Bulky
The Bottom Line: Kenwood knows it stuff, and it shows from this product. If you come across a pair of KPM 410's and want headphones for home use, buy them.

I bought the KPM 410's about six years ago when I realized that I was going to have to move overseas with my stereo. After using them for three years exclusively and three more consistently, I can say in all sincerity, that due to the excellent sound and power of the 410, I never had to do without stereo sound.

Lately, I've been using my 410 primarily for listening to DVD's, so as to not distract my wife, and the fine quality of these headphones give the listener excellent clarity when following dialogue, good bass and mid-range for background sounds, stereo-quality reproduction of soundtracks, and enough power to jolt you out of your seat whenever there's a nice explosion. I haven't had to constantly adjust the volume on the headphone remote as would be common in lower quality sets when the film switches from dialogue to action sequence to music, etc. After having been surprised a time or two by louder sequences, I believe that the 410's have enough power for even a relatively deaf movie watcher or music lover.

The KPM 410 is a bulky product: a bit like some of the old Koss headphones from the fifties and sixties, but the comfort makes up for the weight and size of this product. I can easily wear these headphones for four or five hours without any discomfort or distraction from what I'm listening to. I've had trouble finding compact headphones that have power, are comfortable, and sound good. I'm willing to exchange some bulkiness for quality.

As is apparent, I'm a fan of the 410's: they are relatively inexpensive for what they are; mine have held up to consistent use for six years without any problems; and the cool gold plugs keep static and interference at bay. Perfect!
