Pros: Decent Graphics, great story line, not a short game by any stretch
Cons: Some animated sequences cannot be skipped, minimal voice comments.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this game to anyone who likes a good story, and a fun game. No it is not a game of the century, but it is still quite fun.
mule01's Full Review: Skies Of Arcadia Legends for GameCube
After playing this game, I do not know why Sega had so much trouble with the dreamcast. Everyone I have heard talk good things about it, and now Sega has bowed out of the Game Console's and has given us game cube users this port.
Graphics:
The graphics are colorful and have some depth to them, don't be expecting top notch, but not bat at all.
Sound:
This game has catchy music, but all conversation is done with text bubbles with an occasional short comment that gets anoying after a while.
Controls:
The game is played similar to the old Phantasy Star where you have a party of 1 - 4 characters, and you take turns attacking the enemy. You do not see the enemy coming unless it is a ship, otherwise you go walking along and boom, you are in a fight.
The control layout is simple, no need for heavy button pressing.
Story:
As I said above, the story line is great, keeps you wanting to see what is next. The story line is the "Old world" was destroyed by technology, as they developed their technology, they used it to create weapons. These weapons are called Gigas. Each Gigas takes commands from a person who holds the moonstone. The Gigas were so powerful, they wiped out the "Old World". Now in the "New World" the Valuan Empire is trying to get a hold of these Moonstones to control the Gigas and take over the world. You play the game as Vyse of the Blue Rouges Air Pirates and his friend Aika. Your quest is to find all the moonstones so that Valua does not use them to take over the world. You fly an air ship with weapons, sheilding and upgrades to fight other ships (occasionally), you gather different party members, and eventually get your own ship and you search for a crew.
Length of game:
With the most recent games out there, I have had a problem with how long it takes to finish the game. Most take about 20 hours, this game has me close to 30 hours and I only have 2 of the 6 moonstones you need to collect.
Fun:
This game is so fun I have caught myself playing until 2 AM before heading to bed.
