Pros: Uses radio signals, nothing gets in the way, comfortable.
Cons: No rumble (if you care), no battery level indicator.
The Bottom Line: For the money, this is a great controller. Unless you need rumble, there is no reason not to have one of these.

| mule01's Full Review: Nintendo GameCube Controller for GameCube, Game Bo... |
I love my gamecube, but with 2 dogs, 2 cats and a 5 year old, the chances were pretty good that someone would trample the system, pull out the plugs for the controler or worse the system when you are playing it, never mind the animal hair. Now the solution is here, the wavebird.
I have had this unit since Christmas and Let me tell you, I love it. Now my gamecube sits in my entertainment center behind a glass door with good circulation with no easy way of getting harmed / dirty.
The wavebird does not use IR like a TV remote, but radio signals like a remote control car. It can work through walls, floors or at a distance without line of site. Also works through glass (which is good for me)
It has all the standard buttons, plus a power button with a little light in the middle, there is also a receiver unit that is powered by the game cube, fits in the usual controller slot and does not block anything.
Setup is easy, you just put batteries in the controller, plug the receiver unit into the cube, turn on the controller make sure the frequency channels are the same on the controller and receiver unit, and off it goes.
There are several channels so if you are getting interference from some other radio signal, you can change it. This also allows you to use wavebirds for all 4 controllers.
The battery life is decent. It takes 2 AA batteries, no battery level indicator, but I knew I was in trouble when the light would dim when I pressed the button. I think between my son an myself we have done of 100 hours of gaming before replacing the batteries last night (and they were generic batteries at that).
Plus there is no lag time, you press the button, it happens just like a regular controller.
