When cooking meals, I like to cook extras for my husband and me to take for our lunches. We have in the past used the new plastic containers that are on the market now but some of the foods, such as soups do tend to leak around the lids.
My husband prefers to carry his lunch in a brown paper bag while I use a plastic lined tote. There has been more than one time that the soup or chili he was carrying slipped through the wet bag. Mine doesnt slip through; it just creates a mess that I have to clean up before I can eat what is left in the bowl.
A friend of mine recommended that I purchase the Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310 as there would be no leaks and the food could be heated before leaving home.
I liked the idea of no leakage and not having to take time away from my 30 minute lunch to heat the food and so did my husband. The one thing that got to us was the price. A bit steep at $25.00 per container but my husband thought it would be worth it in the long run. More time relaxing at lunch and not having to eat so fast and getting heartburn.
The Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310 measures 61/2 inches high and 31/2 inches around. It holds 16 ounces of liquid, which is quite a lot. When you start adding solids such as fruits, salads, stews and macaroni salad then the ounces can vary. I have never weighed what I have put into the jar or measured. I just fill until it looks right for my husband and for me.
The inside and out are made of stainless steel that is easily cleaned and stain proof. No more of the glass inside of long ago.
The bottom of theThermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310 is skid proof with a rubberized base.
The lid is a heavy gauge plastic that just screws onto the jar. No keeping track of stoppers and having to make sure that you have them on just right. It is easily gripped as there are indentions on the lid to help and not so wide. Even adults with small hands can grasp this.
The lid has a seal and once it is tightened you will have no leaks and the food will stay hot or cold.
When placing hot foods in the Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310, I still rinse the inside out with hot water so that I can preheat the inside and so the food will not loose too much of the heat by being placed inside a cold jar.
When heating the food, I heat it to the point of it being too hot for me to eat right then, then place it in the jar.
About five to six hours later when it is time to eat, it has lost maybe 25 degrees of temperature.
The mouth is wide enough so that you can eat straight from the Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310. I prefer to take a paper bowl with me and pour the food into it and eat that way.
When using cold foods, I slip the jar into the fridge the night before and then place the cold food into it. There is nothing like a cold juicy piece of cantaloupe instead of a warm, lump of something orange.
Cleaning the Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310 is very simple. Once I finish eating, I rinse the jar under hot water. That night after dinner I place the jar and the lid on the top rack of the dishwasher. It comes out clean and odor free for the next day.
I usually turn the jar upside down on a clean dish towel so that it will dry as the inside has trouble getting 100% dry before the next day if it is just left open.
Any food that you want to take with you and want to keep it hot or cold would work in this jar. Just make sure that you have the pieces small enough to fit inside and it can easily be removed.
This is not microwave safe as it is made of stainless steel and could cause major damage to any microwave.
The Thermos Stainless Steel Food Jar 16 Oz. 2310 is a must have for those that dont have refrigeration where they work or for school as it does keep everything at a safe temperature so you dont have to be afraid of spoilage.
There is a 10 ounce size for those that don't like to carry that much food. I say get the larger one and have some room to spare because some days you are hungrier than others.
Nissan/Thermos does offer a 5 year warranty on this product where most other companies offer a 1 year warranty.
