Silver Lake Resort Experience (Reply to this comment)
by meyerspowell
We recently bought 7 nites at the resort through SkyAuction.com. Got a wonderful price and can't complain about that...$300 for a week.
The room was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath and it was very clean, had been kept up well. We had pretty much everything we needed to cook and be comfortable. I have no complaints about the room. They also appeared to be very soundproof, not once did we hear the people next to us, below or above.
The resort itself was ok...nothing special. My biggest disappointment was that while they are approximately 2 miles from Disneyworld, they offer no shuttle service to the parks. Another, they advertise a lot of activities...most of the time they were non-existent...and many of the activities come with a charge. My daughter one day wanted to participate in the face painting that was advertised, we showed up where they said to....no one knew what we were talking about. That scenario seemed pretty consistent throughout our week stay, most advertised activities never occurred. The rec room charged for most of the recreation activities (such as pool, air hockey). Also, for as many kids as were there, there weren't enough tables. The ping pong table (which was free), we used was broken and not level. The movie theater showed very old movies...not the latest out on vhs or dvd as they advertised. The free refreshments were only if you were sitting in on their hard sell to buy there. Otherwise, you were asked to leave the food alone and that you could pay for food at the pool. There were a lot of unsupervised kids at the pool, jumping on the furniture, etc. Kids were also allowed to use the spa, so adults could not use it to relax it. Someone's child actually had a bowel movement in it and it had to be closed down. The basketball court is not lit at nite so kids couldn't play after dark. There were very few bbq grills and they were not placed outside of all the buildings. The building we stayed in and the one attached had the largest number of rooms but not a bbq grill anywhere close.
There were some positives though. The pool itself is quite large and never felt crowded. They provided a lot of furniture around the pool so there was never a lack of a place to either sit at a table or relax in a lounger. The food at the poolside bar was good and very reasonably priced. Drinks were also good and not too badly priced either. The workers behind the bar were very friendly.
They did push to sign up for their hard sell to buy. They tried it when you registered and then later called (very early in the morning) and then finally the day before we left, slipped a reminder under our door. I heard others around the pool who had attended the sell session and they said it was hard to get away from them...they didn't want to let you go. I guess that is typical for a timeshare resort though. I would have appreciated being asked if I wanted to attend and then when I said no, not asked again.

Never heard that one, eh? I guess it really expresses how I feel about the pink decor :-)

LOL...that's very flattering. Just driving past it, you wouldn't be able to tell how much of an excellent resort Silver Lake really is! You need to drive onto the property and perhaps take a tour.

Thanks, Lorace. It did take me awhile to complete...it is a nice place to visit and when you're in the Orlando area, make sure to look into staying there!
Thanks again,
Anthony

Thanks, Anthony.
A lot of thought and work went into this review.
Sounds like a place I'd love to visit.
