| sholakh's Full Review: Apple iPod (20 GB, PC - M8741LL/A) MP3 Player |
The IPOD has renewed my love for my cd collection.
Having over 500 cds which have gathered dust for over 5 years, I am learning that this beautiful device can hold all my favorite and not-so-favorite songs.
Price: $500.00 on most sites or stores. Apple offers personalization for an extra $19.00. They also have limited edition IPODs signed by Madonna, and other limited artists. http://www.apple.com
I got mine at www.dell.com for 420.00. Dell has 10 to 20% off specials with no taxes. Timing is everything.
Capacity: I have the 20GB IPOD. Comes in 5gb and 10gb also. Storing my music at a minimum of 192 kbps. The lowest anyone should go w/o hearing any loss in quality is 160 kbps. Having stored 500 songs so far, I have used approx. 3gb. Safe to say, I have lots of room for my collection.
Interface: With the touch-dial in the front, I can access all my music easily. This is important when your collection of music is over 1000.
Appearance: Very clean look. Simple yet Elegant. It will catch the eye of tech and non-tech people alike.
Small so you will take it with you everywhere. Approx 1.5x larger than most mobile phones.
Build: Sturdy solid feel. Not sure what would happen if it were dropped. Hopefully I won't find out. If you are clumsy/accident prone, I suggest a case which will soften bumps and minor drops.
Software: MusicMatch Plus. Excellent program which connects to a webserver which identifies your songs on your cd to convert to MP3.
Connection: Firewire connection is needed to connect to your pc. iCable (29.99 at bestbuy) allows you to hear your music through any receiver and speaker system. Your IPOD is an instant DJ. Great for parties and get-togethers.
Accessories: iCable, connects ipod to your stereo or music source via left and right channel RCA connectors.
iRock allows you to listen to your music via your car stereo through a fm frequency.
Many cases are available. The case that comes with it is ok while transporting the device (you cannot see the interface when its on)
Overall, IPOD is one of the most expensive MP3 players on the market. But the premium you pay, you most certainly get from apple. The attention to detail on their user-friendly device warrants the extra cost.
