| devila's Full Review: Hewlett Packard HP PhotoSmart 7550 Ink-jet Printer |
I purchased my HP PhotoSmart 7550, about 3 weeks ago at my Local Best Buy. Along with it came a $50 Gift Card to Best Buy. Which paid for the photo paper and some of the extra ink. If it was not for the sample photos they print out for you, I more than likely would NOT have purchased it. I could not be happier with it! The only downside was that it did not come with a USB cable.
When I got my new baby(printer) home the hardest part was taking it out of the box. After that it took only a few minutes before I could print. Included in the package were 3 inks, black, color, picture ink, and the set-up disk. According to the sales person the including ink cartridges were only 20% full. Just enough for you to see how it works. I believe this employee was mistaken because I have only used about 1/4 of the ink in them. It is used mostly for personal printing, and I have printed 9, 8x10 pictures, 15, 4x6 and about 15 pages of recipes, garden tips and pet tips.
It can hold 2 different sizes of paper, one for normal 8x10 and one for 4x6 picture size. To load the 8x10 you just pull back the knob and slide the paper in. To load the 4x6, push up a knob on top, lift up the lid and pop in the paper. A brainless effort! When printing you can choose from Best, Normal, Everyday and Fast draft printing. Best is recommended for pictures as it gives you the BEST, most clear incredibly real life quality print, even on normal non photo paper. You can also pick what type of paper your using. My previous printer was a Lexmark that AOL was trying to sell (you know those messages you get when you sign on) for $100, why I bought it I still do not know. My HP is a million times better!
It is a snap to load the ink, literally. You just lift up the side panel over slide the ink holders, they are labled so you don't have to guess which goes where, pop in the new ones and snap shut, and you are ready to go. It is even fun to change it!
Important Update 7/9/04
I just changed my inks for the second time! It cost me $70, which included the photo ink and other color ink (didn't need to change the black though, it was still really full) and 60 4x6 photo papers. I still strongly believe it's well worth the money! I returned from taking a 3 week vacation in Europe and the UK on May 9, 2004. I had taken over 700 pictures with my digital (I also got a new Olympus, that I must write a review on). This printer is truly a dream come true! I only had to open the Printer toolbox once, to click the clean cartridge button. I was starting to see tiny lines. I've always been warned about how much ink a printer uses when it does this. But I didn't notice a difference in the levels!
