newtownbeans's Full Review: Symantec Norton Internet Security 2003 (10024885) ...
I had been running Norton Internet Security 2000 for about 2 years and since that version does not support some of the new virus definitions with Live Update, I decided to update to the 2003 Version.
This is a great improvement over the 2000 edition. Many more features and excellent interface. However, installing it can be tricky. You must remove all files of previous version before attempting an installation of the 2003 version. I had some problems with this that I could not resolve and I had to call Symantec for help. It costs $29.95 to get this support by phone and this fee is applied to your installation problem until it is resolved.
The tech person I got was excellent and he guided me flawlessly to a successful installation. I purchased the software direct from Symantec for $48.95 and it came with a $30. rebate if you are upgrading. The phone support was $29.95, so the bottom line cost to me was $48.90. I still feel that Symantec should offer free telephone support for installation problems on newly purchased products, but they don't.
The software comes with one CD and a User's Manual that is quite extensive. At least they don't pack their User's Manual onto the CD as some software companies do.
The 2003 version has many new features including parental controls, ad blocking, new firewall settings, spam alerts, separate user accounts, etc. I had SystemWorks 2000 installed and wanted to keep it without updating to SystemWorks 2003 and I was able to do that. The new Internet Security blended nicely with the old SystemWorks.
Since installing it just 1 week ago, it has already successfully blocked 11 attempted Trojan attacks and told me exactly where they came from.
Once installed, you will find this new edition very much more detailed and extensive than previous versions of Norton security and anti-virus software. Every computer needs Internet Security and Anti-Virus software and I can without reservations recommend the Norton products.
The manual is 246 pages of very detailed information and you can also search from the software with the Help button.
If you already have an older version of Internet Security from Symantec and if you're lucky enough to get the new version installed without reverting to paid telephone support, you will be able to update this critical software on your computer for just $18.95 ($48.95-$30. rebate). So remember....DON'T Use Your Computer Without It!
