Soft Batch Cookies - It's a semi-good thing

Written: Feb 15 '01
Pros:Very soft and moist, lots of chocolate chips, plenty of cookies in each package
Cons:Somewhat on the expensive side, a whopping 80 calories per cookie
The Bottom Line: A very good snack to have around for cravings. Not a cookie that you should eat often but if you like 'soft' cookies than look no further.

YUM YUM: I buy Soft Batch Cookies because, well, let's face it - we all have cravings once in a while. Soft Batch is the answer. They are easy to find (you can buy them in almost anywhere) and addictive.

THE GOOD POINTS: These cookies are truly the Queen of soft cookies. While Chips Ahoy also makes a soft chocolate chip cookie it absolutely falls short of Keebler Soft Batch cookies. These are soft but still have cookie grain, full of chocolate chips, and they even look pretty - fluffy and fat with a golden appearance. Chips Ahoy version on the other hand has a flat, slightly grey appearance and lacks in taste. They are also not as soft. Soft Batch got the soft cookie right and so far they have stuck around (I remember when 'soft' cookies first came out on the market).

THE DOWNFALLS: When I said these cookies are addictive (especially served with a tall glass of cold milk - Got Milk?) you really better watch not to get carried away. The serving size is one cookie - that's right - one cookie. And that one cookie contains an incredible eighty calories with thirty-five of them from fat. The price is not very cheap at around $3.50 a pack (we aren't talking about a gourmet dessert here) although you do get about 33 cookies.

WHAT I LAY AWAKE WORRYING ABOUT: Even though junk food isn't really the healthy way to go anyways, I wonder how seriously chemically altered these cookies had to be to stay soft all the time. Hmmmm... not quite the thing a normal cookie would do.

OH, WELL: I will eat these cookies anyways during the moments when serious I-must-have-something-sweet cravings occur and pray I don't die of cancer from Sorbitan Monostearate (an ingredient). While I wouldn't recommend making these cookies part of your daily diet because you will surely gain 12 pounds just looking at them, I do suggest you stash some away in your cabinet and make sure that you have plenty of milk around for when the urge for chocolate cookies strike (could happen at any time).
