I will be looking for this one!! (Reply to this comment)

This sounds like a gorgeous book. Since I am unfamiliar with this photographer (embarrassed to say!)I will be looking at his other books the next time I'm in the, book store. I am also a big fan of black and white photography and can't seem to get enough coffee table type books. I love getting lost in the gorgeous photos!
Another wonderful review.
I find the links at the end of your reviews very helpful as well.

...to your line: "Color photography is so ubiquitous now that its hard to understand there was a time when we were obliged to view the world in Black and White."
I have always thought that b&w photography is much more compelling than color because...unlike color photography that (when unretouched) replicates the world as we see it....b&w photography forces us to imagine the hues based on our imagination and the contruction of the photo.
I even wish we had more b&w films these days. I miss them.
A superb review, history and essay Howard. You da man.

Howard, when you point out the fact that most of your readers are non-members, in fact it does make sense to include links to other reviews. I'm changing my rating to reflect this. Thanks for explaining your reasoning to me.

Hi Cindy,
Thank you for the rating and comment. I'm complimented that you think my review is very good and I appreciate your taking the time to explain your helpful rating. More than eighty per cent of my readers are not epinions members, they are photography enthusiasts who link to epinions from outside the site to read my reviews.
It is an interesting balancing act to construct my reviews so they are valuable to epinions members and to my outside readers. I include the links to similar reviews as a courtesy for my outside readers who don't always understand how epinions works. I feel it would be unreasonable to ask them to wade through over 200 reviews to find a handful of related reviews.
I welcome your advice and I appreciate your willingness to share your personal review format/reading/rating preferences with me.
Regards
Howard

Great review.... Just thought I would offer a dissenting opinion, I appreciate the links at the end of the review, and I suspect its good business for Epinions also.....

good review (Reply to this comment)
by hadassahchana
The review itself was very good. However, I felt that adding the long list of links to other reviews detracted from the usefulness of the review, at least for me. I'd much prefer to see only the review posted under this book. In general, if I really enjoy an author's reviews, I will go and look for more by him to satisfy my curiosity about his writing.
Regards,
Cindy

Jan,
I doubt that color photography led to everyhting that is wrong with the world----and "Arch Druid" is what the pro development folks called the chief tree hugger.

fascinating! (Reply to this comment)

Makes me wonder if color photography led to color movies and television and mtv and the state of the world today. If we had stayed with the black and white, would quality of content be more important today? One complaint...
How could you just blithely mention Arch Druid and not even explain it?? I'm ticked!
