| oooooooo's Full Review: Samsung P10 Notebook Computer |
Bought this computer from Comet, the UK equivalent of Sears (Washing machines on level 4- you get the idea).
Did so because it was cheaper here than anywhere else, including the internet, by at least £200 (US 350).
The guarantee cost me £250 and covers every small thing except theft.
The machine ran perfectly well out of the box. It came with several bits of essential and extra bits of hardware and software (Recovery discs, Nero 5.5, Power DVD, Photosuite, spdif cord).
The notebook itself is very well specified. Fingerprint recognition, wireless LAN, and Bluetooth are specifiable factory options (but didn't come with mine).
General feel of the hardware is adequate and fairly average. It does not feel especially flimsy, nor is it built like a battleship. In fact, this didn't bother me because the guarantee I bought should cover me for even the smallest defects or accidents.
The look of the notebook, however, is delightful. The magnesium alloy casing and the cut-out in the top cover for access to the CD controls really do make this thing look nice, almost as nice as an Apple. The thin profile also gives it a lot of kudos for the would be show-off on the train/plane.
The DVD performance is excellent, as is the speed and quality of the CD writer. I have yet to use the IR or other ports, or the includede hot-swap floppy drive.
Overall, I would say this notebook has a lot more to offer than its Japanese or American equivalents, with no apparent compromise in quiality or reliability. A final niggle I would make is that MS Works or Word were not included, which is odd considering the amount of software otherwise included. The Pentium 4 mobile processor works smoothly, except for a couple of nanosecond pauses on music CD downloading- perhaps could do with 512 instead of the respectable 256 RAM.
Rush out and buy one. It looks, feels, and performs well and uniquely.
