Great deal for the money
Written: Feb 16 '01
Pros:lightweight, easy to use, inexpensive
Cons:no flash, image quality acceptable but not great
The Bottom Line: As an extra digital camera with reasonable pic quality and quasi-video capabilities it's worth the purchase.
Like many others, I also have a very good digital camera (an Olympus 2500). It takes superb pics and I use it a great deal. However, the idea of an inexpensive, very portable camera was too hard for this gadget freak to resist. I paid $80 for it and have had it about a week now. The reviews here have been very helpful in making my decision to purchase it, and using the device has confirmed my decision as being the right one! The image quality is very acceptable although not optimal and clearly best in good light; the "video" (rapid still frame sequencing) is actually quite usable, and the supplied software makes this a simple package to use right away. Will it replace my Olympus? Absolutely not--but the PenCam is still a geat EXTRA digital camera that I carry with me always and is a helluva lot of fun to use. People response is spectacular and it's a great conversation starter! It's definitely worth the price; just don't expect top of the line image quality (you also didn't pay top of the line, either!)
