Pros: Mind Blowing Speed, Amazing Video Quality, Fantastic Screen Resolutions!
Cons: Size I guess, but then if you want lightweight, you wouldn't buy an 8000 right?
The Bottom Line: If you want Power, Speed, Fantastic High Resolutions, and more features than you can shake a stick at, go with the Dell Inspiron 8000. Nothing can compare!

| pstans's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 8000 Series |
Dell, as usual, has put the laptop market on its head. Yes, it is large, yes it is heavier, but if you are wanting light weight, you will choose something else right.
I wanted power, I wanted performance, and I wanted a large high resolution screen. I got everything I wanted and more. My configuration came with the new 15" "ULTRA" XGA display. I have resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 x 32bit. Unheard of, until now, in laptop displays. I have read others say their display is not as great at lower resolutions, but I can only assume they have a different display as mine is perfect from one end of the spectrum to the other. Of course one does need to understand it is NOT a CRT, there are going to be differences.
I ordered my unit with the 32MB 4x AGP Rage 128 Mobility Video. That coupled with the 8x DVD gives me DVD playback at all screen sizes totally seamless. My desktop is a 350Mhz with 16mb AGP TNT2 Video and a 16x DVD, but the DVD's play with a slight choppy motion. Not on my new Inspiron 8000.
Dell Inspirons also have one of the best warranties around. 3 years parts and labor ON-SITE!
I have had the opportunity to use IBM notebooks, Apple iBooks, Compaq, Micron, Toshiba, Dell Lattitudes and Dell Inspirons. The Dell Inspiron 8000 is truly the best notebook anyone could by if they are looking for the most powerful portable computer available. If you want light weight and thin, consider the Inspiron 5000. But if you don't mind an extra pound and a unit that is a little bit wider, then don't hesitate on the 8000.
The Keyboard is great. I have used plenty of laptop keyboards, and this one is the best so far. The extra size helps a lot. The feel of the keyboard is light, but not too light. I "personally" feel it has just the right amount of preasure. The 8000 also comes standard with Firewire, S-Video (with adapter that converts to Audio/Video out) A second Monitor connector for hooking up a second monitor to extend your desktop or just to display the same image as your laptop display. Your preference. 2 USB ports, Infrared port, parallel, serial, PS/2, etc. The keyboard even comes with TWO mice. Both are initialized and ready to use. One is the standard trackbutton with it's own two buttons and the other is the trackpad with it's own two buttons. Both can be used together or separate.
I have a 700Mhz desktop system at work, with a 17" display, but I think I still like my laptop better! Why, because now I can take the power with me. :-)
The best thing about the Inspiron 8000? It is made by Dell, and Dell has the best customer support/Service on the market. Top Notch!!!
