Pros: Amazingly balanced sonic clarity, especially for the price. Beautifully presented and constructed speaker.
Cons: none personally, for some bass might be weak
The Bottom Line: If you want awesome sound reproduction for a very low outlay, then you can't go past these speakers.
They also look as great as they sound.

| rambotwin's Full Review: Pioneer 6.5" 3-Way Speaker TS-E1690 |
I've been into car audio for a year, and as a student wanting to build a budget system for my parents car, I could not go past the Pioneer TS-E1690 speaker.
Listening to speakers before you buy them is sagely advice, so I listened to speakers that were available to me: Audiobahn splits (ok), Kicker Impulse co-axials (overly crisp highs), Sony Xplod co-axials (has bass presence but everything else was poor), Kicker Resolution splits (AWESOME, but at $500 Australian, beyond my means), JL Audio splits (sounded dull), and finally Pioneer's compression horn co-axials (which I recommend to dance music listeners - nice highs and nice bass) and the TS-E1690's (which were $187 Australian). The Pioneer TS-E1690's outperformed both the JL Audio, and Audiobahn split sets and its just a co-axial!
I was looking for sonic clarity, rather than volume or bass. Two speakers eventually stood out, the Kicker Resolution splits and the Pioneer TS-E1690. After consulting my bank balance only the Pioneer's remained in contention, and after one month of continuous listening, most often at ear bleeding levels I am still wonderfully pleased with my purchase. Be it metal, classical, dance, R&B, you name it, the degree of sonic clarity will put your ears into musical ecstasy, especially if you're upgrading over your stock system. In my opinion, metal (eg. music by Nevermore, Misfits, Devin Townsend etc) is the most difficult music to reproduce, most home speaker systems don't cut it by a long shot. The metal reproduction off these co-axials? Awesome. To me (and my metal-head friends) its passed the toughest test. In fact, when I listen to music, I often turn to my car for good sound.
If you're looking for superb sound for a low dollar amount, look no further than the Pioneer TS-E1690. I normally wouldn't say something so one sided but that's how much I like them!
One last tip, when mounting the speaker, do so in a way that places the tweeter in the highest possible position. This will maximize the amount of sweet highs that will reach your ears. This goes for all 3-way co-axials.
