Pros: Great value for the money, great quality output

The Bottom Line: I would definitely buy this printer again if I came across one, it is a great value for the money paid.

| jamez67's Full Review: Epson Stylus Photo 785EPX Ink-jet Printer |
I purchased my 785EPX a few days ago, and I have tested it on many types of different shots that I have taken with my Sony DSC-P31 Camera (which has 2.1 Megapixels). I usually run the camera on its 640x480 mode so that I can have more pictures, but I think now that I have this printer I will start running it on higher quality because the difference really shows up in the printing. I have printed all of the photos on 4x6 roll paper, and they have all come out magnificently. As with many of the other reviews I have read, there are some minimal "pizza cutter rolls" on the pictures, even when the paper thickness is adjusted. I don't really see the big deal with them; they are really not noticeable unless you hold the picture at an angle under a bright light. I have yet to print a full 8x10 glossy, but I am sure that given the output of the 4x6's I have done, it will be great as well. My only real complaint with this printer is the little output tray that folds down in front, as it is flimsy and doesn't like to close easily. I don't think it was a very good design to begin with, but I think it is a problem that can be overlooked. Also, I have printed about 10 4x6 pictures, and the ink cartridges have about 3/4 of the ink left in them. The ink cartridges are both cheaper than my other printers (5 HP's, ranging from multifunction machines to laserjets), and I really don't think that for me ink consumption is a problem. I have only printed one black and white text document, and there were 5 drops of black ink across the top of the page that must've been from the ink cleaning cycle when the printer is turned on.
All in all, I think the Epson 785EPX is a great printer (if you can find one). I got mine on clearance at Officemax for $99, and I think there is even a rebate out if you buy Epson paper with the printer. This printer is the little brother of the Stylus Photo 825, and the only main difference is that this one only has 2880x720 dpi, whereas the 825 has something like 4880x1440. This printer has gotten higher reviews than the 825 everywhere I have looked, and I personally think no difference can be told between the prints.
