I've never owned a better vacuum

Pros:Exceptional suction. Works great on carpet and hard floors
Cons:Heavy
The Bottom Line: This is a very good vacuum if you want to get your carpet clean DEEP DOWN. I sometimes think it's going to pull the carpet right off the floor.

Evaluate specific features of this product.
The vacuum comes with all of the attachments you would basically expect. It comes with a 5 ft extension hose, which is very flexible and stores nicely against the vacuum so it’s not flopping around. It also has a crevice tool, upholstery tool and furniture brush. It has a 25 ft power cord, which is very helpful; you don’t have to keep unplugging it when you go from room to room (not in my house anyway, but I only have a little 2 bedroom house).

The power switch is right up by your thumb and so is the switch that will let you convert to vacuuming hard floors (it shuts the roller off).

This machine is bagless and it is messy when you empty it because it picks up so much dirt. To avoid getting the dirt all over, I just empty the dust cup outside and this solves that problem.

The filter inside does get jammed with hair (dog hair, which I have 2 dogs), but I just “gently” bang it against the deck and it easily comes out. The manufacturer states to do this and this works well to get the dirt and other stuff out of there.

There is a switch on the right side on the bottom that push and adjusts the the height you want to vacuum at. There are 5 height adjustments to choose from.

Explain your rating of this product.
I really like this vacuum because it cleans very well. I honestly have never had a vacuum that cleans as well as this one does. There is nothing this machine won’t pick up. I was joking with one of my friends, who also has this machine, and we said that we had to be careful so we didn’t suck our kids up! Even though it's gross to see all the dirt it picks up, I feel confident because I can see it's doing the job. My rating is an ‘A’.

How has this product performed over time?
I’ve only had this vacuum for about 2 months, but it has handled well and endured a lot. I vacuum every room in house with this machine and it does get rammed into the walls and furniture. However, it still keeps chugging with no signs of stopping.

Not a vacuum for the meak, and not for your elderly grandma (I say that with all respect)

What do you love and hate about this product, and why?
The only thing I don’t like is that it is heavy and it is hard to move around. I’ve read the other reviews and they have said the same thing. To make it easier, I just make long passes in the room I’m vacuuming in, instead of short fast passes. This seems to save my arm strain. I guess you have to weigh good and bad, and I think there are far more good things to say about this vacuum, than bad.

Which alternate products did you consider, and why did you choose this one?
I gave this purchase more thought than it really needed. I stood in Target for about 1 hour looking at the different models trying to decide which would fit my needs. I looked at the Hoover Windtunnels and they would have probably done well, but they were too spendy for what I wanted pay (the cheapest was $250.00). My final decision was based on that this Dirt Devil could be used on hard floors at the touch of a switch, had 5 adjustable carpet heights, and was under $200.00
