Why WAIT???

The Bottom Line Run don't walk, to get your DVD. If you love movies, you won't believe the difference in your favorites, old or new.

We've been putting off buying a DVD. We're real movie buffs, and enjoy our large collection of videos a lot. The thought of starting over with DVDs was pretty daunting, so we put off buying a DVD.

Well, two weeks ago we took the plunge. We'd seen several players at Costco for under $200, with all the features we knew we wanted. We came home and researched the models, and finally settled on a Panasonic 5-changer model. It also plays CDs, which means it could sit in the same area in our TV hutch that held the CD changer. That was a really big plus, as we were out of room, and that's another reason we hadn't bought one, we didn't know where we'd put it.

We brought it home, after buying the correct cables at the Good Guys to hook it up. It took my husband about an hour to get it all hooked up and ready. Then we settled in to watch a movie. We were amazed at the difference in quality. Yes, we knew there was a difference, but after watching some of our favorite movies that we've watched again and again on video, the details are just amazing, as is the sound.

We asked ourselves again and again, why we waited so long to switch over. Right after we bought the DVD, my husband got sick, so he watched several DVDs, and the quality in all of them was just amazing. In some cases it's like watching a brand new movie. The color is better, the sound is better, and the background details are much better. My husband's favorite movie is "War of the Worlds." I've never liked it much. The DVD is so much superior to the video, that I sat through the whole movie, seeing detail after detail that I'd never seen before. It's pretty amazing.

So, we love our DVD player, and are extremely pleased with the picture quality, sound, and ease of use. You pretty much just stick in the DVDs, and play.

Then of course, there's all the bonus materials on the DVDs, that don't come on most videos. On just about every one we've bought, you have the choice of regular or wide-screen (Letterboxed) viewing. There's also cast notes, often "How we made the movie," outakes, and other bonus features. It's kind of like watching a whole new movie about the movie, and gives you twice as much material to watch and enjoy. I've really liked learning more about my favorite movies, and seeing some of the outakes.

So, I'd recommend buying a DVD RIGHT NOW!!! The prices have come down so much, there's just no reason not to enjoy your favorite movies at their very best. Certainly replacing your video collection can be costly, but if you do it a little at a time, and watch for sales, it's not too bad. We love ours, and are so happy we finally broke down and bought it. You will be too!!!!
